Just recently found out my speakers had a down firing port on the bottom. Question is should I now move the speakers off the hardwood onto the carpet or is it okay to leave them there, and why

It really should not matter! I would be more concerned about a thick and tight piled deep carpet restricting the action of the port. You should check to see if the manufacturer specified any minimum clearance requirement for optimal port operation.

Curious, what speakers are these? I only know of a handful of bottom ported speakers!

The floor surface will not affect the sound of that speaker, regardless of where the port is mounted. I am sure the speaker is fine where it is.

Okay I just wanted to make sure, already have them in a square room which is bad enough I just didn't want to make it worse
