I was only able to listen to a few of the speakers on my list. I am down to
INFINITY BETA 50
ATHENA F2
KLIPSCH F2
BOSTON ACOUSTICS VR 1
DEF TECH BP8B
Keeping in mind that I really like hip hop and want to feel like i am at the club when I listen to the music, which speakers would you recommend. I only plan on getting two fronts and probably wont have money for a speaker so I really need that good bass. Any help would be great. Thanks

None of those speakers will make you feel like you're in the club without a powered sub. Just out of curiosity isn't there a HUGE price discrepency between some of those speakers? You can get those Athenas shipped for $400, what prices are you looking at for the others and what's your total budget? Also what kind of receiver are you going to use? Those deftechs have a huge reputation as power pigs and you'll need a good amp to get the most out of them. For pure bass without a powered sub backup I'd say your best bet is the Def Techs, but I think you'll be much happier with the Athena's and a 12" $100 Advent sub from Amazon.com. You will not get club style bass from any floorstander in this budget range that I have ever heard of, although if you like the Klipsch sound you might want to give these guys a try. http://www.ubid.com/actn/opn/getpage.asp?AuctionId=601504153&refLoc=searchall

Get those shipped to you for $300 and then add a nice beefy sub for the most money you can afford. Try to swing at least $200 and then you'll be in business. Good luck with it all.

Takeer,

Club speakers don't go below 35hz. Ever. A pair of towers will give this affect in a house size room. Most songs played in clubs have a bass beat centralised around 60hz, the loudest bass note produce by every speaker that goes down to 30ish Hz.

I know what you're saying sheep. I guess I just thought that the poster was looking for the impact and that "feel the music in your guts" reaction you get at a club. I wasn't saying we need to get him down to 20hz, just that we need to make sure his walls are shaking, lol. All of those speakers may be able to play low enough in the sound spectrum to reproduce the frequencies, but there never be that umph that a powered sub can add IMO. I've heard those athenas run off of a HK435, and the sound filled in nicely with the addition of a sub. A powered sub will pressurize a room far better than any of those speakers ever could, even a cheap little 12" advent or a nice little 10" from somewhere. .I've only seen a few speakers that could keep up with a powered sub's output and they required a heck of a lot of power and were a heck of a lot more than $500 a pair.

and is the most important criteria, I would not choose any of them. I would get me a pair of Cerwan Vegas. Nothing will rock like a Cerwin but it is at the expense of accurate sound. You want club like music experience, buy a speaker that is designed for that and the Cerwins definately are designed for that purpose.
