@lovinthehd I am not stuck on my 2 channel it all can go, looks like I have the wrong speakers….i need to hear other speakers..and go into a different direction with your guys help…I am in the Pacific Northwest…of Washington state…
Just ditch it all for some KEF LS60s. Run your HDMI from your TV or whatever to the KEFs. No amps, dacs, or processing required. Plug and play that sounds really good for $6k. I doubt you listen very loud and would bet you'd enjoy their simplicity.

Check out Erin's review:

That would be heaven, no amps or dacs…but how would the Yamaha receiver fit in or would it be gone too…the center channel for vocals, like the news sounds better coming from a center channel only..

As you can see, there are a lot of options available. If you are open to getting new speakers, note that most of us on the forums tend to lean towards neutral speakers with a flat response as that tends to yield the most realistic sound reproduction. Better to get a flat sounding speaker and use EQ than to get a speaker that is bright or bottom heavy.

Two well placed speakers can produce a phantom centre image if you sit in the centre sweet spot for listening. You can try a staged approach. Try 2 speakers alone, and if your really feel you need the centre channel, you can add it later, unless you are set on having a centre channel now.

Unless you go with something like the LS60 above. There is no matching centre for those speakers and no option to add surround speakers later. They are strictly for 2 channel listening. You would not need the Yamaha as they are powered speakers. You connect your devices, like your TV and any music sources, to one speaker and the other speaker receives the audio wirelessly. It is a nice compact system for 2 channel listening.

If you want the centre channel and the option to add surround speakers, stick with the Yamaha. In your price range there are some great speakers. The HT Towers and matching HT Center from Philharmonic Audio are very neutral speakers and I've listened to some of their speakers in the designer's home in Maryland. They have a beautiful finish and would be a top contender for me. They produce them in batches so you have to wait for stock as they sell quickly. I would email them about current wait times. They sell direct but they have a good community of supporters. If you want to hear them, someone in your area could be willing to let you have a listen. The BMR monitor, BMR Tower and HT Tower have a similar sound to each other.

Arendal also make a great speaker and you can try in home with free return shipping if you don't like them. They are quite heavy, though, but that might be incentive to keep them rather than box them up again. :D They get great reviews and like the HT Tower have good bass extension and likely would not need a subwoofer unless you want the low frequency effects from movies and TV.

A lot of stores carry KEF and besides the LS60 you could consider the R7 Meta or R11 Meta. I would also second the mention for the Mofi Sourcepoint. Very well measuring speaker and highly regarded. If you like horns, the JBL HDI-3800 is another option. I have listened to the 3600 and they are a nice sounding speaker for the money. The 3800 received a very favourable review on Audioholics.

The KEF, Mofi and JBL brands are the most likely options to be found locally if you want to audition the speakers first. In your price range, Focal and Revel are also options that may be available in your area. If you know of some retail shops that are within driving distance, let us know what brands they carry and members here can recommend some models to try and listen to.

Somewhat, the magazine itself isn't particularly trustworthy. His measurements are limited.
I agree about the magazine, but not your opinion of John Atkinson. I did not publish all his measurements, they were exhaustive. Those are clearly dreadful speakers.

Neutral with a flat response speakers can sound bad too. All I want is a AVR and speakers for home theater and music leaning more to the music side being all there is on tv is the occasional great movie, lately that’s not to often.
Thanks Eppie for the speaker recommendations, the Philharmonic line seems bright on top but that was sound demos on YouTube so that’s not saying much. Good god there is a sea of different speakers, the main thing is not being bright and booming bass, just a nice mellow but good sound when in two channel…
NO HOT TWEETER!!

I listened to the Philharmonics in the designer's home and they are not bright. They publish measurements on the their web site and you can see that their speakers are very neutral. They also have a wide dispersion which gives them a fairly wide sweet spot. That may cause issues in a narrow room. For the Monitors, Erin's Audio Corner shows a 1dB lift around 6 KHz but it wasn't something that I noticed. Audioholics reviewed the BMR Towers here and the HT Tower is reviewed here.

I also do not like bright speakers as I find them fatiguing on the ears. Audioholics and Erin's Audio Corner on Youtube are a good source for information. The Audio Science Review forums also have some detailed reviews with unbiased data. You can look for speakers that do not have boosted highs. Something that rolls off more on the high end will sound warmer and less fatiguing but may also appear to have less "detail" or sparkle.

It comes down to what you personally like best, which is why it was recommended that you try and demo some speakers first hand and get a handle on the type of sound you prefer.

Hello,
I am 73 and have to down size my system in a big way. I have my 2 channel and home theater in the same small space and the two channel has to go leaving the Home theater, here is my two systems and I have to end up with just one doing the 2 channel and home theater in one box. Meitner MA3i dac/streamer hooking direct to the Pass Labs XA-25 amp to the Volti Lucera speakers, Home theater is the Yamaha RX-A2060 which needs updating, front mains is the Volti Audio Razz speaker, center channel is the Klipsch RC-6411, with the Klipsch RP-250S, 4 of them…the question is there a A/V that will give the 2 channel goodness and home theater?..going to keep the Volti Audio Lucera speakers as the front mains for 2 channel with a A/V and the Klipsch speakers doing the rest of the home theater..so I have to end up with a A/V…I am use to the Yamaha is there a Yamaha I should upgrade to or should it be a different brand…
thanks
The Yamaha RX-A2060 4K Video/ATMOS sound is all you need for AVR/AVP.

An ATMOS 5.1.2, 5.1.4, etc., will be able to play 2Ch music perfectly.

So the only thing you need to do is decide on your speaker system.

A. 2 large full-range towers and nothing else. Simple. Full-range. But will miss out on the cool surround sound effects and center dialogue.

B. 2 large full-range towers + Center

C. Two Large Full-Range towers + Center + Surrounds

D. Smaller speakers + Subwoofer

I think for 73 YR old, I would probably go with 5 bookshelf speakers and a smaller lighter 10” subwoofer.

Some of the Best Buy Magnolia stores have B&W, KEF, and other high-end brands. Go listen if you can find some.

Are there certain brands that you’ve always wanted to own when you were younger, but never got the chance?

So then just 2 higher-end towers?

Do you like your current speakers?

@AcuDefTechGuy Yes two towers, my Volti Lucera and Razz are ok but it’s time to move on from horns…and all my gear is just getting away from me in my space..

@AcuDefTechGuy and At 73 if I go before my wife I want to leave it easy for her to play music and watch tv. Now I have my 2 channel the Meitner MA3i dac, the Pass Labs xa-25 amp and the Lucera in the same place as my home theater…so two Volti speakers sitting side by side…it’s time to clean up things…and make it simple..
