Door for family room for bass response?

Hi all,

My listening area is my family room in my basement. The dimensions are approximately 14x23x8. Subwoofer is an SVS PC12 NSD. The room has one door way that opens to the hallway to the rest of the basement rooms and to the upstairs staircase (split level or bi-level design house).

When I bought the house there was no door in the door frame, it had been removed, though it is framed in for a door. I'm wondering given the size of my room and my current sub if I should be looking at installing a door. I keep reading about people wanting to "pressurize" their rooms with their subs and I'm wondering if I'm missing something.

Having said all that, I only set the gain on the sub amp at around 50% and the auto setup on my receiver still sets the sub output around -6 db.

Thoughts?

If you want a door there I would put it, but if you don't want a door there I wouldn't just because the bass will be stronger... Sounds like the pb12 is more than enough as it is...

I think the only thing you're missing is a door. Don't believe one would have any effect on your listening pleasure.

Thanks for the input folks. For what it's worth the last time I watched Dark Knight Rises, around -25 or -26 on my AVR there is a scene where the floor moves under the earth like an elevator, pretty low bass in that scene. I've anchored things like picture frames and such so they won't rattle, so I'm fairly sure what was vibrating in the room was drywall or windows at that point. Perhaps what I'm missing though is it seems that I don't wind up feeling too much of that transfer to my body. Perhaps I'm just used to my old house where I had my sub in near-field placement and now it is placed inline with my mains?
