In my 7.3.4 Home Theater setup I'm currently using 2 pairs of in-ceiling B&W CCM362 down firing speakers as my Atmos speakers. Now there's always been a debate as to what the ideal/recommended speakers to use...down firing or angles speakers pointed towards the MLP. The new RSL C34E MKII just recently launched and these are angles speakers and was thinking of replacing my current B&W's to the RSL's. I did send in this question to AVRant and Tom Andry himself who I respect and value his opinion a lot responded and said that there's absolutely NO need to replace my current setup. That using down-firing speakers are perfectly ok. Then you see guys like Hometheatergurus Steven Smith etc advocate the use of angled speakers coz they are better for Atmos well you can understand that of course it makes enthusiasts like me confused right? So I'm here hoping to get peoples opinions before I replace my B&Ws...thanks.

Well I’m not familiar enough enough with the IC speakers you currently have but I do own c34e’s and IME they’re excellent. The main thing to consider is how wide the dispersion is. I personally believe that speakers sound/perform better when they’re more or less pointed at the LP. So depending on your ceiling height and actual placement angles, you may not benefit. I doubt anyone will have the experience with both speakers to give advice directly. Again, my experience with the RSL’s has been great. Afraid I can’t say whether or not you’d benefit from switching.
