Starting a thread to discuss Dolby Atmos music mixes with so many Blurays being released with new atmos mixes. I just setup two different systems with the best being a 7.1.2 system with 9 separate speakers, sub, AVR and BluRay player. The other is a Sonos system with 4 pieces for the family room. I’ve been buying BluRays both separately and as a part of reissued box sets. I’m also listening to atmos mixes on Apple Music. Please share your thoughts on atmos mixes you’ve heard.

I’ll start off by sharing the best mixes I’ve heard. Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon and Animals along with Dire Straits’ Brothers in Arms are the 3 best I've heard so far. No surprise since the CD versions also sound excellent but the atmos mixes take them to another listening level in my experience.

I think it all depends on your receiver or AVP. I am now on my third unit. I had a Marantz 7705 and then 7706 for Atmos. Atmos was interesting but not a huge game changer. They both failed one at five years and the 7706 at three months. So then I bought a Marantz AV 10 and that is totally different and impressive. I suspect most processors are not up to Atmos decoding, and tha AV 10 has shown me the real potential of Atmos mixes. So results will vary.

Thanks for your message. I’m looking to upgrade my AVR and was considering the Marantz Cinema 50. I’ll check out the AV 10.

Phil Collins No Jacket Required Atmos is very good. Some portions are oddly mixed, meaning a few sounds I never noticed show up in weird placements, but overall the mix is very good.
