My sister hates HD, widescreen and surround. She will be watching all these channels like espn, nbc or fox that have (esp. espn) excellent HD mirror stations in surround but she doesn't like the bigger screen. It is not like we have a 4:3 tv and she is making the image smaller. We have a very large tv and it just fills out the screen. As for surround I can understand, we made the mistake or investing in the Bose Acoustimas 6 system. tragic but still surround in 7.1.

My wife also complains about the sound being too loud. Hey, what's the point in having a 1000-Watt sub if you can't wring 'er out once in awhile? I quit trying to rationalize this insane hobby long ago. To each his own...

As long is she is willing to leave the lights on and turn the sound up in other rooms, it may be a fair compromise!!!!!;)

With my first HT system, I got a lot of complaints about it being too loud. That's before I realized there are ways to tweak the setup so your center channel does most of the work, and allow the rest of the surrounds to come in when directed. Make sure (some, not all) you guys aren't using the same setup for music that you do for movies. Your center channel should play plenty loud, with the sub filling in the very deepest of bass without being annoying. If your towers and surrounds are doing a lot of the work during a flick, it's set up wrong. Your surrounds should only come in a dozen or so times during a movie. Try and avoid Pro Logic and Neo modes, and instead use straight DD or DTS. If the movie is two channel, then use Neo 6 or PLIIx - seeing which takes advantage of the center channel dialogue the best. Also, always go with DTS if available on a DVD over DD. It's more dynamic, and will show off your system better.
