I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I've found a good deal on a Denon receiver. However, the seller says it was bought NEW from secondact.biz. I've done a bit of research and I can't find any info that secondact sells *New* electronics goods. They seem to sell Denon, but all are refurbished. They are however listed on Denon's site as refurbished retailers. Now, if I purchase the amp, and run into problems, would Denon fix it and how likely is it that this amp was A stock, not refurbished?

You bring up several issues.

First off, this is all I could find on Denon's warranty for refurbished equipment sold in the US. I can't find anything for Canadian sales.

Several observations...

A: a refurb is only guaranteed for 90 days. When did the OP buy it?

B: It says nothing about the warranty being transferable.

C: You'll need the original receipt for the purchase of this unit from an authorized Denon dealer to cash in on the warranty. Dunno if the different names and addresses (in two different countries?) would raise any red flags if you need to try to use it.

D: What do you think the odds of this being a NIB piece of gear is? (look towards the bottom of the page)

E: Even if it was NIB, if it was sold as refurbished, that's all the warranty will support.

The receiver is one years old. He says he has the recipt in email format. But hasn't forwarded to me yet. It will be a local pickup but the receiver has been packed away for few months. I'm more concerned if the unit is refurbished. If so, everything seems shady and goes against what the seller says.

Can anyone confirm if secondact sells new receivers?

If it feels shady, walk away or use your gut. There will always be another one down the road.

If he has original packaging, it should be marked on the box that it's a B-Stock or Refurbished piece of gear. Sometimes a manufacturer will re-issue the serial number to reflect the status.

The original receipt is key to the warranty and you'll have to make a moral decision in the event you have to utilize it. That's because it most likely won't have your name on it.
