Does anyone have any idea how the new Aperion 6Ts will stack up against Axiom M80s?

Hey everybody. In my neverending quest to find my perfect speaker I humbly request advice. I am upgrading my HT and was originally thinking Axiom M80 package in no small part due to the glowing review here. The one thing that irked me was the finish. I am not 100% sold on the vinyl finish--even if it IS very good quality for vinyl.

Aperion comes swooping in with a revamped line with piano gloss black (which matches decor) on the new 6T line-up--which I guess gets released in April. I don't suppose anyone outside of Aperion has heard these babies yet but are they supposed to be in the same ballpark as the Axioms? Does anyone have any thoughts? Fewer but larger drivers, and maybe a little easier to drive (although will be powered by amp so that is mute).

Any ideas would be appreciated. And I DO know about the free shipping and I might audition both, but I would like at least some idea before I do that.

Thanks in Advance

How can anyone possibly know how speakers that haven't even been released yet will "stack up"?

The finish on Aperions is second to NONE! I just ordered a Bravus 12D Sub that shipped yesterday :) It should match my 633's just fine :p

I started out with a pair of 632 LR bookshelves, and was blown away. You can read my sig to see my 5.1 setup. The sound is awesome, the quality is even better.

Aperion Audio has been a pleasure to do business with, and they ship both ways if your auditioning. I just could not see myself paying big bucks for vinyl wrapped speakers. Just can't do it

I agree! Aperion makes awesome speakers and they look great. Once it is released, go ahead and order a pair and see for yourself how it stacks up. What do you have to lose since they pay shipping both ways?! Av123 makes some really nice looking speakers as well. If looks are important to you, both of these companies are worth checking out. Their speakers are gorgeous! As for Axiom, they do make real wood speakers, but you'll pay a high premium for them. If it were me, I'd pass since it sounds like getting real wood speakers appeal to you and you can get a better deal elsewhere. Good luck! :)

I reviewed the new 5B's from Aperion just recently. I imagine the sonic character of the 6T is similar. Personally, I like the Aperions over the Axioms I've heard. Axioms tend to be very forward in the upper frequencies to the point of drowning out the midrange. At least that's how I feel. The Aperions are also a bit forward in the upper frequencies, but strike a better balance IMO. They do sound a bit on the polite and delicate side, but great overall. Oh yeah, the black piano gloss is beautiful!

I didn't find anything missing in the midrange on Axioms at all.

With no shipping cost, the Aperion's are a no-brainer to audition.

You will get a lot of differing opinions on what sounds good. If it were me, I would spend a little on shipping to be able to compare at least the top two speakers on my list. If you were auditioning locally at stores, you would probably spend that in gas driving around anyway.

Besides, how often do you get to have TWO sets of HT speakers in your house at one time. That's gotta be worth man points! :D

I would buy speakers finished in packing tape and old bumper stickers if I were blown away by the sound. To me, nice looks are a bonus rather than a main criteria.

Well and by all accounts, the Axiom's vinyl is among the best there is. Several reviews (including this one) have lauded its good looks. So, at least for me, its not as if I am saying "Im ruling the axioms out for not being full wood" its more as if "Well the Aperions are full wood, that's a plus".

What are the thoughts about the impact of these two systems\companies. The axiom m80 has 4 drivers and 2 tweeters where the Aperion has two drivers and one tweeter. Is this going to factor into the "impact"\SPL\ or general immersive experience? This is going to be almost 100% HT use so musicality is not really important.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

I've never understood the "More Drivers is Better" thing. I have never owned a speaker with more than one tweeter or one midrange.

Audition the Aperions, as you have nothing to lose. Mine play very nicely with 125 watts per channel, and they get loud, and trust me, your going to be immersed

Hmm. Havn't read anything on advantages and disadvantages of single or multiple drivers and I have done a LOT of reading in the last 3 months.

I was told by Axiom that with multiple drivers, each driver is working less hard and is able to reproduce more of what is there.

I havn't heard any explanation involving electronics of physics that would back that up though. I suspect it also depends on the design of the drivers themselves.

Multiple drivers works well for the M80. I wouldn't go so far as to say its a disavantage for the Aperions.

Tell you what, order them both, do the auditioning and report back to us. :D :D

On the flip side of what Axiom said, more drivers could also mean a greater possibility of integration problems. Like a few have already said, more isn't always better. Both Aperion and Axiom make fine speakers and it comes down to personal taste.

I have a question. Which is higher end, the Aperion Intimus 632-LR or the Aperion Intimus 6B? What are the differences between the 2? Just the finish?

What is the difference between those speakers with models designations that end in letters and those that end in numbers?

The 6B is the new model of the 632 and supposedly has better parts. I never heard the older Aperion so not sure how they compare.

Thanks for clearing up the naming convention.

Both the wood veneer and the piano gloss look really nice.

But if I had to pick a color, I would go with the wood veneer. :)

The piano black is my pick. They're beautiful! My wife was considering keeping the speakers based on how they look.

aperion speakers

My first 7.1 HT system was Aperion, and I loved it for HT. I had the power towers as mains, in addition to their 12"sub. It is a great affordable system for HT. However, I did not enjoy the power towers for music. I upgraded to the Axiom m80's, and would agree they are a little bright, but overall are better than the power towers for music. The black piano finish on the Aperion's is second to none-- beautiful. Just my 2 cents.

At last! Someone who has heard both (or very nearly, you had the older Aperion). How would you rate the Aperion vs the Axiom in a purely HT environment. I really don't care too much about music, so any insight into their performance against each other in a HT environment would be very much appreciated. Thanks!!!
