Does anybody have experience with external Mini USB to SPDIF converters?

The receiver that i'm interested in does not have a USB input: Marantz sr6001. I thought this would be a nice feature to have if i wanted to plug my laptop into the receiver. There are a few on Ebay from some unknown Chinese brands. I'm wondering if these products will distort, manipulate the digital signal at all or if it's even advisable to do this?

Example like :

Do you need it to be a digital coax connection? If you can use an optical digital audio connection, I'd recommend the USB dongle linked here. I got it for my parents, and it's worked just fine for them.

thanks, i think that'll be just fine =)
Hi mplee79,

I like the coax digital one best, but the one from Adam is cheaper too.

If it was me, I'll get the coax one, it just looks so cool.
And for $40, that's only small peanuts, that's the list price of a good Blu-ray.
And besides, a Coaxial connection is always more secure than an Optical one.
[And some people swear of the better sound quality from Digital Coaxial connection]
* Now people, don't panick, it's just my own personal way of connecting my components.

* I'm surprised of the low reception from USB users!
You can always check at other Audio Forums, like AVS.

Cheers, good luck & please, let us know your latest development, so that we can learn something valuable from you. :)
