Does a certain feature I'm looking for exist?

It's time for a new a/v receiver as my RX-V 992 is falling behind in terms of compatibility. No HDMI, IPOD connectivity, etc...One quick question. Does Yamaha or anyone for that matter an a/v receiver that will program settings for speaker output. Not sure if that makes sense or not. What it boils down to is I have a Sony ES 400 disc changer that functions as my DVD player and CD player. My recevier puts out great sound with movies but really stinks when CD's are played. I end up using the "Disco" sound field just to get a little more sound out of it. Any advice is appreciated.

I'm not sure which feature you're looking to get, but I might be able to help. I also have a Yamaha RX-V992 and used it for years. I also thought that it sounded great for movies and horrible for music. I also read a A/V magazine article that stated the same thing. So, you are not alone. :)

I bought a Pioneer VSX-1015 back in 2005, and it was night and day. The auto EQ that the Pioneer did smoothed out the response of my system, and music was once again a pleasure (and movies sounded a lot better, too). I now own a Pioneer Elite VSX-23, and it performs on the same order as the VSX-1015.

I think that you'll find that getting away from the RX-V992 is solution enough for your problem. Not only was it not that good for music in its own day, today's receivers with auto EQ really make a big difference, IMO.

Thanks for the input. I always thought I was doing something wrong when it came to setup. I thought maybe a newer unit would allow me to select which speakers were activated at my discretion.
