Do you prefer your speakers accurate/flat or "colored"?

Why is BOSE more popular than B&W?

Do you have the sales numbers for the B&W 800Ds vs. the Revel Salon2?
Sorry i didn't mean to ask a dumb question lol. I just thought that revel is a fairly big brand like B&W, and they've got all sorts of research and development behind the salon 2 but B&W has a sort of stranglehold on the price category. I always assumed they were similar performers having never heard either, so i was like o_O when i read that the B&W ain't all that great off axis.

I've heard many times as well that the B&W 800s, especially the 802Ds were extremely flat and neutral and accurate.

Then AJ on this forum pointed out the Stereophile actual measurements on the B&W 802D showed that the off-axis response was terrible, which was kind of a shocker to me also; but there it was - actual real measurements from Stereophile to prove it all.

I've listened to the 802Ds twice - a year apart. I've listened to the 803D and 800D once each. If that is what they call "accurate" and "neutral", then I want no part of it!:D

I guess it's just personal preference.

I've never listened to the Salon2. Hopefull I will one day soon.

One of the main reasons i purchased my speakers is because of their ability to reproduce music ACCURATELY.

One thing they completely capture is the violin.. its nothing short of amazing!
The bass does fall off which makes it not a TRUE full range speaker, but thats why subs exist!
Serious though, try find me a speaker that measures better. The only one offhand i can think of is the salon 2.

I think the 800Ds look a lot cuter than the Salon2s:D also.
What about the bi-pole Salon 1s lol.. they're just funky.

There's still a ton of measurements missing to make a judgement. But i wouldn't be surprised if the Salk HT2-TLs for about the same price had a similar performance... and it's not even their flagship @_@

I planned on getting one of those for a while but I just don't listen at that high a volume level. I figure an Emotiva XPA 2 or even XPA 3 would do the trick and I plan on using the stock crossover. My main goal is uber clear dialogue for movies & medium level critical listening.
For the N801? The P5000S isn't enough. I would think the large capacitors on the XPA-2 would be good, but the N801 is *very* demanding.

The 801-Series2? Yea, that should run fine on any of those. Far less fussy (note: If you are underamped on the 801 it gets "harsh" rather than "weak")

Do you find off axis listening to be problematic?
I'm really incomplete in my N801 evaluation because of the amp problem. Where I have listened I've not run into much issue.

Any reason you chose the 801 vs 802?
It was available and the price was right.

BTW: the WAF on the N800-N802's is very high. They are *really* pretty
