Do most Blu-ray players play cd's & dvd's

They all do. Some will have better dvd playback/upconversion than others, but most are pretty good. I don't think there's any significant difference between their cd playback.

Pretty much. My bd-60 plays every disc I have, including the CD layer of my SACDs. I don't know about burned media, as I don't have any.

I had a few burned discs that the BD60 wouldn't play that my Oppo does, but otherwise it has played everything.

Store bought CDs are not the same as data CDs with MP3s, or other types of CDs you may have, but recorded CDs (CD-Rs) should play back if properly finalized.

Yes, all discs should play back fine, and you just need to look at the specifications for the player you are looking at and it should tell you all the different formats that a specific player is compatible with.

The absolute minimum should include: Blu-ray Disc, DVD Video, and commercial CDs.

But, the better players have capabilities far beyond those three basics.

I was pretty upset that my blu-ray player would not play burned DVD's. I have ski videos that I have from when I was younger and have to hook up my old memorex dvd recorder just to play them. For shame Sony....for shame!

Shame on you for buying Sony. I stopped buying Sony when they started selling CD's with hidden root kits.

I believe it was Sony's DRM. If I remember right, it caused damage to people's computers similar to a virus and they were sued for it.
