How would I know if I need a cooling fan? How hot is too hot? The Marantz does get pretty hot, even when its not pushing hard.

Seriously, I have no life.
If it shuts off, you may need a fan. Measure the actual temperature at the top.

If it doesn't shut down, it isn't too hot. Is it enclosed or in an open rack?

I use fans if the location has marginal air flow but as long as you have lots of room for air to flow then a fan is strictly optional.

My SR6003 can run pretty warm too, even when idling, but never hot to the touch (IE where your reflexes kick in) My suggestion is to turn it off/ standby when not in use, but beyond that, it is what it is. Opening it up and adding some heatsinking does sound good though :D

My SR7001 will be a bit warm after I push it by viewing an action film or when I play some loud music.

I have thought about getting a QUIET cooling fan, so I'll be interested in any advice that comes.
