Hi there

I have some questions to ask and this might feel stupid to some. Kindly ignore my lack of knowledge.

I have the following setup at home

Dlink Lan splitter 4 ports

LG 4K tv and setup box via HDMI 1 (LAN1 connected for streaming)
Microsoft Xbox One S via HDMI 2 (LAN2 connected)

So that finished my HDMI ports of my tv

I have a custom desktop PC for gaming and music storage. LAN3 connected

I have recently got the following setup for music.

Parasound Halo Integrated Amplifier
OPPO UDP-205 4K Player
Focal Aria 906 Bookshelf pair
(Option to connect by LAN4 available but need to buy cable)

Now my questions
1) I have a DSD and FLAC collection on pc. How can I listen from desktop though the music setup.
2) I have the collection available on USB drive where should I connect and listen from (OPPO or Parasound)
3) How to get the TV sound through the bookshelf
4) How to get the xbox sound through the bookshelf

Let me know your a suggestions and as I said kindly ignore my lack of knowledge for the same.

Sounds like you can connect the computer to the Oppo and then the Opposite to the integrated amp but you will need a processor AVR to watch t.v. through your speakers. Same with the xbox.

The Oppo can function as a AVR if streaming via LAN or spinning discs were the only sources. In your case, the cable set top box is a source along with the Xbox, so you need an AVR to manage that many sources.

1. Connect the PC to the 205 (via asynch USB if possible)...go to network on the 205 and it should find the PC & music files.

2. I would probably play it via the 205, but it may not matter. I'm not sure what DAC is in the Parasound, but it should be of reasonably good quality.

3. & 4...to my knowledge, you need an AVR

I think a good AVR would take care of a lot of the issues and resulting confusion.

If you decide to purchase an AVR, I would suggest either a Denon AVR-X4300H or a Marantz SR6012.

In any case, I would suggest that the one you acquire has pre-outs to enable you to connect external power amps, should you find the need in the future.

You could run all sources to TV via HDMI. Then run the Optical Out from TV to Parasound, but then you miss out on all the good bits.

Using an AVR makes sense with all the video sources and different audio formats to consider.

Getting an AVR for pre-outs just to have them 'if needed', is a waste of money.

Depends on the future amp needs as to whether they're woth having...can't merely add that capability to an avr without such now that they limit what units have pre-outs let alone external processing loops.

I entirely agree with you.

Most audiophiles, at a certain moment, decide to improve or upgrade their sound system. We just have to think of an audiophile who wants at one point to replace his speakers with less efficient ones or some with an impedance that go down below 3 ohms at low frequencies, then he has no choice but to get a new AVR, as he cannot connect external amps.

You're over thinking it.

OP did not ask for a AVR/ pre-pro to meet the need for a 5-10 year expansion plan.

You're allowed your opinion! He did not ask for it but he might have been thinking about it without mentioning it. Do you know?
