DLP Projector artifacts - 'Swarming Cells'

Hi Guys.

I have a BenQ PB2140 DLP projector and I have a question regarding image quality.

When running from PC 800x600 (both with std cable and 10M cable with vga booster) I get what I can only describe as (if you look close to the screen) what looks like you would see when looking at live cells under a microscope. It looks like a swarming bunch of 'cells' over the whole screen It can only be seen on light pixels/areas and can't really be seen from a distance. It may not be an issue but I can't help think it would affect the over-all quality of the image.

Using a SVHS cable from a (cheap and nasty) DVD player it does not happen - although the image quality is noticeably poorer (crap dvd player i think)

I was reading about 'Dot Crawl' but it does not seem like this given the description of Dot crawl on the web.

I do plan to buy a good quality DVD player and run via component video as the projector accepts this and I understand it is the best quality BUT I also wnat to run from PC without this annoying artifact.

Any ideas.

Thanks

Viewing mode or throw distance

I noticed from the spec sheet that the projector supports different viewing modes depending on the input you use. Is the problem happening in all viewing modes when you use the computer input?

Also throw distance could be a cause, do you have the projector placed at the correct distance form the screen?

It happens in all modes.

The projector is 3 meters from screen which is well within specs.

Try tech support

I would recommend calling BenQ tech support. You said DVD playback did not have this problem, maybe the computer input is damaged.

Let us know the resolution of the issue.
Cheers.
