Hi guys I'm looking for a DJ setup for under $2000 that will be mainly for house parties, outside, roughly 125 people maybe 6 times a year....so this isn't something that will be used on a weekly basis. Size is a bit of an issue so i'm not looking for something monstrous. I'm looking for 2 powered speakers (no carrying/storing an extra amp), a sub and a mixer. I'll be hooking this up to a mac/pc and would also like a recommendation for software that you guys recommend. If you guys could recommend a setup for me I would reeeaalllyyy appreciate it!!!!! :D Hoping to unveil this for holiday parties

What i've been recommended so far is:
2 - JBL Pro Powered 15" EON 515XT $699 each (lightweight 33lbs)
1 - Podium Pro Audio | PP15PS1 $499
(What do you think about podium pro????)
1 - Hercules DJ Console RMX $299
(My cousin has had good experiences with the Hercules RMX)
Total - $2200

Hi. First of all, this is a home theater forum. You'll probably find more application specific advice at a place like Pro Sound Web. Most of us just aren't familiar enough with DJ gear to be overly helpful.

Second, I suggest shelling out a few hundred more for some JTRs:

JTR Speakers |  Triple 8X

Not only will they do great for parties etc, you can set them up in your home in-between gwith fantastic results.

For the sub, is there any chance you can build it yourself? You might be able to get some fantastic results going that route.

As a general rule, anything with "pro" in the name, isn't. Visit some local sound rental outfits and music stores; they often have used gear to sell (possibly more in January, when the holiday party season is over). There's brands which are lower profile than JBL but still very good.

Consider renting for one party to get a feel for what works and what you need.

Check out Behringer stuff as well. Their electronics tend to be extremely good value for money. I don't know about speakers.

Building is feasible on that budget. Possibly a horn sub, if you just have to wheel it outside once in a while. I think there are "plate amps" suitable for DIY semi-pro speakers. Check out Parts Express, and the various dealers in speaker parts. Speakerplans has various designs, and a lively community of builders.

That is a pretty solid setup. The Eons are very good speakers. While the JTRs are great speakers. They are also very heavy.

Mackie TH15A THUMP 400W 15" 2-Way Active Loudspeaker Kit might be a better choice

I do recommend a sub of some kind if you are doing music like hip hop.
