ok, so far this is what i have - Velodyne DLS5000R 15". so far i love this thing!

now, ive been reading a lot online of DIY stuff, and ive been thinking, i could sell this and use the money for DIY. now im only interested in 2 -3 subwoofers if i do. im big into car audio and the subs that i have choosen are

JL Audio W7 as ive heard it works good
RE Audio XXX - i used to have one during the summer but sold it (trying to get it back)
or one from FI Car audio.

and i found local a behringer ep1500 (pretty cheap price)

also for the price if found the w7 and xxx i could prob get 2 FI subs for the price of one of the other 2. now am i going to notice a huge change, or not really worth going though all of this? now ive been laid off work, so i cant really put money towards it, but use the money from the velo.

also im waiting for you to chime in here Wmax lol
thanks!!

yea your right, the only reason i was thinking of doing this is because i could sell one to pay for the other so i dont end up using any money

The best home theater sub is probably the TC Sounds LMS driver sub. It has extremely low distortion and will blow away your current sub in the right box.

If you demand a 21" sub I'd suggest the 21" from exodus audio.

If you want to do a port I'd suggest looking at a sonosub. It let's you get really large ports to get that deep tune with no cuffing.

no no i dont want a 21" sub lol, i was thinking either single or dual 15's depending on price. if it was the JL or XXX it would be single, if it was FI it would be dual. and what ever i do i would build a slot ported box.

also, what about doing a sinle FI audio 15" SSD, i can get one shipped to my door for about $350, and the get behringer ep 1500 for $150, so say $550 with box. thats not to bad, i could prob sell my velo for more then that local here in canada. but then again, am i going to get that much that its going to be worth it in the end??

Forget the RE XXX. Right now you can get TC Sounds LMS Ultra subs for really low price (well, low price for a LMS) from Sound Splinter. 12" is about $450, and 15" is around $550. Give or take a few $$. The modern version RE XXX is a superb driver - but nothing is superior to LMS currently. They have the most linear motor systems in the world; absolute flat BL from rest to x-max. The Sound Splinter RL-S are what you want(these are simply re-badged TC Sounds LMS Ultras with some customized TS specs and cosmetics), they have 12" and 15" availalbe right now, and these versions have 38 mm one way linear x-max, 50mm one way mechanical limit(x-mech). You ideally want to use 2000 watts RMS or more for this driver. But 1000 RMS will work well for a ported system, or a sealed system where no LF 'boost' is used.

I just ordered 2 of the 12" ones and they are very low on both the RL-s12 (maybe out) and the RL-s15!
He said that they were slow movers (partly because the impedance is high for car audio) and he was planning on discontinuing them.:(
In any case, if anyone wants one, best give Mike at Sound Splinter a call (818-429-7068) and see what he can do. He might put in another order if demand shows.

well looking at those prices those are still in usd, i live in canada, so after that and shipping i think that would be over my limit. what would you say would come close to it for a bit less?

Depends on the cabinet you are willing to build. If you will build a proper slot ported cabinet, then the JL Audio 10W7 is cheaper, and of extraordinary performance. It will match many conventional high quality 15" subwoofers in real/practical use due to it's extremely linear motor and exceptional thermal reduction features.

I lack reliable data on the FI subs. You did not even specify the series of FI sub you are considering - but even then - I am not aware of credible 3rd party analysis of a driver in the series. If you have a link to such data that I can review, I can tell you my opinion at that point.

The W7 is near the best performance possible. The 10" W7 really does produce more clean SPL under 40Hz, compared to high performance conventional 12" and even many 15" drivers. Seriously. Will for example, a super discount retailer such as Techronics. About $400 USD with shipping in the USA.

Call them and ask about shipping/duties to your Canada address. If too much, or they just refuse, I could accept them for your at my address and relay them out via United States Postal Service to you.
