DIY 12V power amp trigger

My power amp takes a 5-12V trigger (positive=on) to turn on, but the preamp doesn't have this output. I'm thinking of plugging a 12V power supply into a 'switched' 110V outlet at the preamp and using that instead to turn on the power amp.
Is there any downside to this that I'm not thinking of? Thanks in advance.

If you're talking about doing something like this, then I can't think of any downside. That's what I do.
