Display problem with Kenwood VR-716

I'm new here and have a question to ask. I moved a while back and had difficulty getting my receiver hooked up properly to my TV for sound. My son fixed it last night and it's great, back to really great sound. Now the problem. I turned the power off on the receiver when I turned off my TV earlier today. When I turned it back on (using the remote), none of the indicator lights or display information came on. Now I realize that the only way I can use the unit at all is with the remote. It's not going to be much good for changing my radio stations as I can't see what channel I'm on or see the display to change the stations. I can still use it with the remote by pushing the input option I want, but otherwise I have no way of knowing which mode is selected. The only display light that shows is the standby when it's turned off. Any ideas what the problem could be?
Thanks in advance.

It could be an actual problem and the display circuitry is toast, lcd burned out, etc.

But, a few other possibilities:

- Dimmer options.. Maybe the dim function is on the very lowest setting or off (although that kind of option is usually reset back to full on when the receiver is turned off).

- A 'Pure Direct' kind of mode. That mode shuts off all video circuitry and could be related to the dimmer option as well. Some receivers with such a mode turn off the display entirely when in Pure Direct mode but it usually turns on momentarily at least when you press a button on the remote. It may also have a dimmer preference that was set to always shut the display Off. I'd check the front panel of the receiver for the dim and/or display options as well.
