Display Panel issue and Remote control unit of H/K AVR335

The VFD Time Out setting on the OSD of the AVR335 gets reset everytime the receiver is switched off and restarted
So, is the case with the 'Dim' settings controlled from the Remote Control Unit. Is there any method to customize
this setting so that it does not have to be set every time?

Also, if any one can advise me on which Universal Remote Controller to purchse (budget upto $100). The RC of
AVR335 is not very useful as it lacks many controls for the CD/DVD i.e. eject, menu, subtitle selection etc.

The internal battery that keeps the BIOS/Settings in tact during power loss is probably dead. Any repair shop could probably fix this quickly.

I'm a big fan of the Logitech Harmony Remotes. You can score a good deal if you google around.

very strange, im not sure why the hk does that but mine does the same thing. I didnt notice it before because i never really messed with the display.

as for the remote, look into logitech harmony remotes, they are some of the best ones around.

For a remote under $100 I would consider a Home Theater Master MX-500. If you can go up to $125, the MX-350 would be better. I have both and they are excellent.

The Harmony's are good too, in terms of being capable of controlling all your equipment. My only issue with them is they have lots of tiny little buttons arranged in a seemingly random order. I prefer the layout of the HTM remotes - you can operate them totally by feel without ever looking at the remote.

Nothing wrong with the battery

the battery that keeps the BIOS ticking when the unit is off is just fine as my receiver is brand new. The other day I was going through the instruction manual and it states that the 'Dim' settings are reset when the unit is switched off and restarted. Although I am not sure of whether the same should happen to the VFD Time Out settings on the OSD. All those owning the same receiver or a receiver from H/K, can you check as to what happens in your case. Thanks

New Harmany 520/525

Look for the Harmany 520 and 525 remotes. They will come out in the next couple months in time for the holidays and will sell for only $99. However, they will have most of the features of the higher end harmany remotes (LCD screen, programable macros, web interface for programming, etc.)
Harmany 520

Recommended upgrades to this remote include a couple sets of rechangable batteries and the RF remote exterder.

Don't HK receivers have an on/off button and a separate standby button? If so, would it still lose memory if you used the standby button?

Separate Power and stand-by buttons

The controls are re-set even when the unit is restarted from the stand-by mode. Users, please go through the owner's manul (Pg. 37) in case of AVR335 as I am unable to make sense of it. I am especially looking forward to the replies from H/K users. By the way 'jetyi83' which receiver are you using? Thanks.

AVR335 manual, page 33
Once the desired brightness level is selected, it will
remain in effect until it is changed again or until the
unit is turned off.

According to the manual you cannot save the brightness level. As for the time out setting it should remain after power off.

A/V receivers use high capacitance capacitors for memory storage backup and not batteries as computers do. Unless you're losing more settings it's unlikely this is your issue. Especially since it's a new unit. It could be another setting that overrides the time out setting. I would recommend a Harmony remote. I believe they have some in your price range.

What could be causing the interference ??

As you have stated that some other setting is overiding the VFD time out setting. What could this possibly be. If you could give some details. By the way, other settings such as vol. setting, OSD time out setting, Semi-OSD time out setting remain the same after restarting. So, the capacitors seem to be alright. By the way 'jetyi83' which receiver do you have. thanks.
