Two Black Fridays ago I stepped into the world of HDTV with a $900 Protron 32" listed in my sig. With in the first year I sent it back ($65 shipping) for a replacement because of burn in where the 4:3 image fits in the 16:9 screen. With in the next year the burn in was back but not as bad because my girl is okay watching Oprah all stretched out. However one of our local HD channels broadcasts in 4:3 with the black bars which is what I believe to be the culprit for the new but diminished burn in.

I'm okay with how things have panned out seeing as how I've enjoyed 16:9 movies on a 32" rather than a 27" CRT during that time and plasma has gotten better and cheaper since then.

Today I am going to pick up our new Panasonic TH-50PZ77U that came to $1850 at Tweeter. Another $250 got spent on HDMI cables from BJC, a wall mount and an Avia II disc. Yep, I'm spamming the site with that piece of news.:)

I have a 64" Pioneer Elite PRO730hdi that will be 5 years old in december. I have had 6 service calls on it and the extended warranty people are in the process of replacing the set or buying me out as they say the set is unrepairable.

Samsung 30" HD CRT, 6 years old, no problems

Panasonic 32" LCD, 2 years old, no problems.
