Happy holidays! I have a quick question regarding disney plus. It has come to my attention the center speaker does not play while watching anything on the streaming service. I run a 3.1 setup and all other streaming sources will play with that format. Setting on the denon reciever is multi channel in. Playstation 4 hooked to the reciever via hdmi, reciever to tv via hdmi. Denon is set for auto detect, which it uses on disney, but still no center channel with multi channel in. Does disney support more than 2.0 audio streaming? Just curious, asking before I loose my mind trying to figure it out. Thank you.

its alright son, I'll fix it

I get 5.1 audio from Disney + on my Amazon Fire 4K and my Apple TV 4K.

I don’t have a PS4 so not sure but seems like it would support 5.1 probably.

Even if your app in your device streaming to your avr is 2.0 you can expand that using a sound mode to multich. If not natively DD+ for the streaming with multich/Atmos then it could be PS4 settings/capabilites perhaps?

ps I had tried Disney+ via Amazon Prime on an Amazon Fire Stick (pre 4k) and all content was limited to 2.0.

Interesting. The ps4 is capable of 5.1, when streaming Netflix or amazon through it I get all three channels working, well as long as it's a newer movie that's coded for it (i.e. a Christmas story was only 2 channel). I'll work through some settings but I have tried to manually turn on Dolby surround through the reciever. Still only 2 channel. It's not a high end denon, I have the 2400h. Still, we've had two responses with two different experiences. One with 5.1 and one with 2.0. I wonder if it's a subscription issue, as in pay more money for better audio type deal.

The experiences are from 2 different generation of devices. What do you have the PS4 set to output? What are the settings in the Disney app?

So the playstation is set to linear pcm 5.1 audio out. Disney app doesn't appear to have an audio setting, at least that I can find.

What happens if you bitstream instead?

Should I do bitstream Dolby or dts?

Well bitstream isn't particularly either (lpcm is where you're having your console handle the codec, bitstream would send it to your avr to handle).

Ok, just changed it to bitstream dolby (7.1) and tested two programs. Avatar had the center channel working, the mandalorian does not. I will now try another app to see if this bitstream setting enables the center. And yes, amazon prime watching psych center channel is working. I'm judging by dialog if the center us working or not. It's very clear if it is while dialog is going on. I'm stumped! Is disney just not streaming multi channel audio on most content?

No way to see what audio each program is offered in? Your avr should also have a way to tell what type content is in play....

I'm confused. I guess when I changed it to bitstream, it didn't save or something and reverted back to multi channel in. I just went back and changed it to bitstream again and now all programs have center channel enabled. Even the old cartoon jungle book. To recap, I guess I was using the playstations "brain" to decipher and send out audio. By changing to bitstream I bypass the playstation audio decoding and utilize the denon. Thank you for all the help! I was going crazy trying to figure this out. Seems all is well in my audio world again.

Glad you figured it out (in part at least). My old PS3 had some funky settings now that I think about it....

Yep. As you found out, Atmos only works with bitstream enabled.
