Dish recently released a new version of their HD DVR. Besides the larger hard drive I noticed that it says that it up-converts SD content. Has anyone seen this done? Does the ViP622 up-convert or just scale?

I recently got the ViP622 receiver. I believe it only scales the SD image to 480i, 480p, 720p or 1080i.

But as far as larger hard drive, you can add any external USB 2.0 drive to the 622 or 722 receiver USB port.

Thanks, majorloser. I didn't know you could simply add a USB drive for more capacity. I have the 622, and that might come in useful some day.

The larger hard drive and extended HD capabilities seems to be the focus of most reviews I could find on the web, however I don't really care that much about the HD space. I want to know how well it upconverts SD material.

Otto: Dont know if you noticed or not but the software got updated on your 622 on the 15th, with that new software update you can now add the external HD.
