Yep, and if you read the fine print, you'll see they can do anything they want to you...whenever they want to do it. That free HD was a benefit to those signing up during a specified time period, btw, Warp.
When I signed up, we were told that we could upgrade one of our receivers every 6 months, free of charge. So after 6 months, we upgraded a standard receiver to a DVR. They charged us, but after 3 phone calls, they took the charge off. They were supposed to send a "recovery kit" for us to send them back the old receiver (or you get charged big bucks). It took another 3 calls and 3 months to get that kit.
Then after 6 more months passed, I called to ask for another upgrade...a standard to an HD receiver upgrade. "Sorry...we no longer provide that benefit." Benefit? That was part of your sales agreement that caused me to bolt from Dishnet. Repeat..."Sorry, we no longer provide that benefit." I took this one all the way to the district director. The best he would do, grudgingly is charge us "only" $50. So we did that. And yep, they would send out a "recovery kit" immediately. "We promise." After 4 months, I called to ask where my promised kit was. "Oh, we don't need that back. You won't be getting a recovery kit." (I feel like I'm being set up with this little maneuver. So I'm keeping the useless bugger until we drop DirecTV, just in case.)
The thing is, we got this kind of crappola from Dishnet, too, and worse from that evil entity called Charter Cable. I hate being a captive audience to these thieves.
