Digital audio with an Anthem AVM 90

I’m new to HiFi and looking for advice to stream or otherwise play music with my AVM 90. Given that Apple is now allowing you to download high quality audio, that seems to be one relatively inexpensive way to go. What other options would you recommend?

The Anthem AVM 90 pre pro?

Those are out? I thought only the AVM 70 had been released

I am ordering in next week, along with three power amps. I am hoping to have the theater remodel done by mid spring. I am tryin to figure out the best way for me to get my source material. My internet is about 40 MB/second at best, 10 at worst. I suspect I will not be happy with just steaming data so I think I will need to look at ways to have the information stored locally.

Do you have cds or other optical discs? Still the best source....even if you rip them and stream them only within your network. I'd pick a streaming service based on the apps/devices it can be used with and how you like the interface or not, and as long as a lossless format wouldn't worry about it particularly otherwise.

PS Many seem to like the benefits of a service like Roon in combination with a streaming source.

I no longer have any hard copies of music so I am starting from scratch. I am thinking lossless audio from Apple Music makes the most sense, but was looking for other ideas. Yes, I think Roon would be nice to have.

I'd look at Qobuz and Amazon. I dislike MQA/Tidal myself but that could be an option. I don't use apple stuff at all, tho....iTunes abused me.

I have roon and it just “organizes” ALL your music life for you.

Qobuz offers reduced download prices for owning streamed music with one plan. It is also considered to be the most ethical streamer when it comes to paying artists the most. You can get Qobuz separately without roon as well.

I also have Tidal and Amazon Music HD. Tidal I stream through roon but Amazon I stream through a Denon HEOS Link 2.

I tried Apple Music but there was no way for me to get hi-res music above 44hz. All the others offer hi-res up to 24/96 or 24/192.

Good luck with your Anthem AVM 90. I was considering it too but got tired of waiting.

In June Apple Music came out with lossless audio. Did you try it after June?

I have an Apple 4k and a Roku I just stream my music off those The Apple TV is better with having atmos although the volume level problem is annoying sometimes

Can you explain the volume level issue?
The Apple 4k I have to turn it up higher then the Roku to get the same volume level.

It's noticeable with Prime Netflix and any music streamer

And the audio quality is way better on the 4k Roku. I just watched an episode of Reacher on Prime with both and it wasnt even close hands down the Roku was better. But the Apple 4k can do Dolby Atmos which is the only reason it's still in the system

Although just using the AI on my Yammie CX 5200 upmixes most audio to all channels surprisingly well. So most of the time I use the Roku unless I'm listening to Dolby Atmos music which I can only stream on the Apple TV through Tidal

But I have to turn up the volume so high the gain on it is so low

Maybe I just a funky Apple TV because most people say the audio is awesome

But the Roku in my system is way better

Apple’s lossless is capped at 44hz i believe. Also their Atmos tracks are ALL about 10-15db less volume than their standard music. So care must be taken when switching between tracks.

This thread has gone completely OFF TOPIC from the last 7 entries. Can a moderator tell me how this is allowed to continue. Every contributor has the right to post a reply to a thread. But just taking over a thread which started as an enquiry about Anthem 90 and now seems to be about music downloads. from Tidal , Amazon etc is hardly on topic with the original thread starter, simply because there too lazy to start another thread on another subject. This is simply unexpectable and leads to total confusion, when looking for a set subject.

With the OP saying "I’m new to HiFi and looking for advice to stream or otherwise play music with my AVM 90" how does it not relate? You don't seem to be relating too well. Are you confused?

The thread topic was not about the AVM 90 but streaming options or other alternatives for the AVM 90. Maybe you misread the OP's original post

As to native processing of various bit depths/sampling rates....could be a somewhat different discussion altho largely irrrelevant.

I appreciate the responses as they all provide information that informs whatever decision I make.

Yep, well my-be I did. But that aside just how many people who replied actually own an Anthem 90, and have first hand experience of downloadable
music via a Anthem 90 or a 70 for that matter.

You don't need to own an actual Anthem 90 or 70 to be able to give the OP some good advice on what streaming and digital options will work well with his prepro. Most of us here have owned or currently own enough avrs or prepros to give the OP some good advice on what options to go with

I have owned the Anthem AVM 60 pre pro and currently own the Yamaha CX A5200 pre pro plus denon and onkyo current AVR's these are close enough to give him some feedback on which streaming and digital platforms I've experienced to help give him some ideas to start with after he purchases his AVM 90

Also since the AVM 90 has not been released yet here in the States and there are really no owners of the product yet. And the OP hasn't even ordered it yet if you read his thread you'd have noticed he's getting ready to order it.

I think a lot of us responded to his request for streaming and digital platforms so he can start researching them before he receives his AVM 90 when it ships in the fall. I don't think that was to unreasonable of a response to try to be helpful to the OP based on his actual request do you?
