I want to run the digitial audio from my DishNetwork HD receiver and DVD player to my mixer (don't ask why its a long story) but the only converters I can find are TOSLINK to a single RCA jack - is "Digital Audio" mono only ? Does anyone know of an appropriate converter ?

Many thanks for any help you can offer.

No, digital audio is not mono; at least, not in the sense you are meaning. If I understand your line of thought correctly, you refer to the fact that there is only a single cable carrying the signal. The cable, whether optical (Toslink), coaxial or Firewire can carry either a stereo signal or, in the case of DVD's/DVD-A/SACD, a multichannel audio signal.

All down a single cable.

Clever eh?

Oh, and welcome to the forum by the way. ;)

Optical and coaxial digital cannot carry hirez SACD or DVD-A, and there are no players that will pass them via these connections. Firewire (as well as Denon-link) can, though not all players utilize this type of connection.

Oops. I forgot! I really should've remembered, as I am in the process of getting an i-link for my Yamaha S2500 universal player.

Thanks for the correction....
