Digital audio out to PC in?

$70 is actually a bit low of an estimate, too.

The adapter that sells for $70 will not convert signals that are output in 5.1. The model GTV-DD-2-AA adapter is around about $100.

Can anyone link me to a type of reciever that can do this conversion for me?
Personally, I think at this point your best option is probably to save your money for a few months and look to buy an HTiB or cobble together a receiver and some speakers used through Craigslist/eBay. I cannot surf craigslist at work, but I'm sure for a few hundred dollars you could get yourself a serviceable 2.0 or 2.1 set up with a receiver that will sound infinitely better than purchasing any one of the adapters that we found so you can hook up a couple of speakers with a 3.5mm jack.

*sigh*

I really do not understand why this TV does not just have another audio out, it makes no sense.

I hear ya. Probably just a cost-cutting approach for that model.

Do you have any other equipment with an ATSC tuner (such as a digital converter box, DVD recorder, or DVR)? If so, one of those could be used to output audio to your stereo because it could be tuned to the same station on the TV. Just a thought.
