Differences between all of these?

At my work, we demoed a brand new Denon DVD-1800BD blu ray player which is now hooked up to the onkyo tx-nr905. The screen on the onkyo displays "DTS-HD MSTR" which from what I understand is DTS-HD Master Audio.

I just wanted to know what were the differences between DTS-HD, DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby Digital Plus? Also, why wasnt DTS-HD Master Audio displayed on the onkyo when I had the sony bdp-s350?

Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio are not lossless compression schemes. Therefore, some of the original audio information is lost.

DTS-HD Master Audio (always previously just called DTS-HD) and Dolby TrueHD are lossless. So, none of the original audio information is lost.

However, for most people, nothing audible is lost. Bias controlled listening tests have shown that most people can't tell the lossless formats from the compressed ones.

Your Sony player, I believe, may not support these lossless formats. I know my BD-S300 does not. You may want to check the specs.

I used the s300 and it definitely does not support it. The s350 however does support both dts-hd and dolby truhd. Why is it that the s350 wont do dts-hd master audio and the denon blu ray will?

Who knows. Yeah, the s350 is supposed to bitstream DTS-HD MA. What exactly does it say on your Onkyo 905 display?

The display on the onkyo 905 says "DTS-HD MSTR". I have many other receivers also connected to the denon blu ray and with the sony I would only get "NEO:6" or "Dolby D" but with the denon I get "DTS ES Discrete" or something. Why is it that the denon provides much higher formats than the sony when they are both bit-to-bit?

Also what exactly is DTS ES? I looked online and it kept bringing something up about true 6.1.
