Did I get a bad speaker?

I just bought a new set of Bic Acoustechs. The main's sound fine but the center is just horrible. It's grating and high pitched. Sounds like a blown speaker. I plan on exchaning it for a working speaker, but are these speakers just bad? Could there be something else besides the speaker to blame? I have it hooked up to a JVC receiver.

Depends.

These speakers are Horn loaded, which tends to make them sound bright. Is it just a harsh SSS sound that you hear?

No. I hear the harsh S you're talking about. But it's more than that. Everything on the center is totally harsh and grating. Almost a screech sound to it. It's completely unlistenable. I've been running in 2 channel mode even with DVDs.
