Dented my SVS SB12-Plus

My sub is in a corner right next to a half wall that separates the living room from the breakfast nook area and the patio door. I had a sample from Axiom Audio of their Boston Cherry finish and it was sitting on that little wall.

I bumped into it and it fell on the sub (a drop of about 3 feet) but I didn't think anything of it and just picked up the board and went about my business. So...last night I noticed that there is a little dent on the top of the sub. It doesn't look too bad but now my beautiful Rosenut sub is flawed.

This is one reason I am slow to buy expensive stuff. No matter what, somehow, someday it will become shall we say 'less than perfect'. (Of course in this case it was *my* fault and that is what really bothers me).

Seriously, my condolences. I'm the same way, except that I would have inspected the sub immediately after the block fell.

I guess that now you'll just need to get yourself that second SB12-Plus so that you will have yourself a pristine one!

If it's really that bad

You can usually take a damp towel folded in half, lay it flat over the dent and run a hot iron over it to raise a dent in wood. Start off very slow with gradual heat as you can cause grain to raise to far if you're not careful. You also have to be careful to not apply so much heat that you'll get the veneer to come loose.

Try it on an old 2X4 first or the bottom to get the hang of it.

This is what they do to restore antique furniture. Do a search on-line to find out more.

Its just the way she goes...freak incidents, kids, animals...not much you can do about it.

I guess you didnt get the newer finish samples that come with the warning sticker to keep away from other speakers. Apparently there is some kind of curse thats put on the samples so that they are naturally attracted to (damaging) other speakers. :p

I responded to this and the post is not there. Any way I want to say that I think the Major's post fits the bill, especially the part about the search. My father taught me that trick about moisture swelling the cells in wood. It helps hide hammer marks on trim when you make a boo-boo. Even when the cells dry back out, they retain a part of their new shape.

The thing that I had to contribute was using MINWAX Wood Finish STAIN MARKERs to draw in a faux finish should the veneer be scraped off. Home Depot sells them.

The dent is very small and scraped off a little bit of the veneer. The hot iron technique may raise the dent a bit and I may try it but really I think all I would do is try to touch up the finish with the stain markers. The problem is that Minwax doesn't have any stock colors that are a close match.

MDS, you might want to (if you haven't already) contact SVS and ask if they have any suggestions or touch-up materials.

I can't rembember if it's Minwax or Varathane, but one of these guys makes sample packets of all their stains. They cost less than 50 cents each. Might be a cheap way to mix up your own batch to mach the color.

Sounds like the perfect opportunity to upgrade to a bigger Sealed like the ULS-15... :)

Sorry about the damage..... I know it upsets me when I find damage on my stuff as well... I can usually equate that to my son I proudly refer to as "The Creature"...

One of his friends came over to see the system, and put a scratch in the piano black of one of my Plus/2's... I can buff it out as it wasn't deep but, I feel your pain... :(
