Denon X3400H OSD not being shown when using Sony UBP-X700 UHD player

I was just throwing it out there as it explains the process and effect of the conversion. Depending on the model, video conversion may or may not be available to enable GUI overlay when outputting analog signals over HDMI. The Denon X3400H has conversion ON by default but that doesn’t mean it is currently on in your unit. Check your HDMI settings in your setup menu. I believe it can be set for each input source on your model. If some menus are analog, they need to be converted to be output over HDMI.

Denon (others as well, far as I'm concerned) is known for using ambiguous language that's nearly indecipherable depending on your experience level with the menus and terms. Batpig tossed that together to help us noobs translate and understand what they actually mean and do. I don't think @Trebdp83 was pointing to anything specific. It's just a helpful guide for looking up what stuff means and does. A Denon to English translator if you will.

Sorry, not my site. BATPIG posts over at AVS often, or use to as I've not been over there for some time. I was referring to the GUI overlay in relation to the conversion feature.
So this conversion feature thingy, is it at Settings-inputs-input assign? There is a chart in there. For every source, there are options for hdmi, digital, analog, comp and video. For blu-ray, they are all blank. Should I change something?

No, those are for assigning various audio/video inputs to a source. Unfortunately, as new features and specs come along they work to varying degrees with different and older models. While the video conversion feature works for overlay when displaying other resolutions, the X3400H will have issues with menu overlay when trying to bring them up over some 4K HDR signals according to the manual. While my S760H cannot display the SETUP menu over any kind of video, the INFO and OPTIONAL menus as well as the VOLUME display can be brought up over a 4K HDR signal from a 4K HDR disc being played in a Sony UBP-X800.

Curious that you have an issue with a 1080p blu-ray, though. Is 24p output on the Sony set to Auto? If not, set it to Auto. 4K Upscale Setting should be Off. YCbCr/RGB set to Auto? If so, try YCbCr 4:2:2. If 24p is not set at Auto, a conversion to 60p can cause issues with output to some AVRs and TVs.

For me, it seems to happen when I'm watching a movie with DV. And I made those changes you mentioned but no change

Ok. I have heard that turning Dolby Vision On in that player converts everything to Dolby Vision. That would explain issues with 1080p discs that do not contain HDR. Turn Dolby Vision Off and set everything else back to Auto. All 4K discs contain HDR10 so you will still get HDR with DV Off. Try it. If it works, it should show HDR10 YCbCr 4:4:4/BT2020 when you bring up info display while playing a 4K blu-ray disc. Denon must have been referring to DV when referring to “Some kind of HDR signals.”
