You mean the one for the 3805? It's not just you....it sucks! It's barely readable at night in a dark room. Easy solution, buy an MX500 for less than $100 delivered and you will never have to use it again!

Quite a few people have complained about the Denon remote, and it seems that Denon has been replacing the black view remotes with a blue tinted model. I've never seen the black remote, but I have no problems at all with the blue one-works fine and is visible in bright light (if you tilt it, at least).

Bryan...your mileage may vary...

The complaints on the 3805 remote was one of several reasons why I bought the 2805. The 3805 remote is great idea, and a poor implimentation of the idea.

You have greater patience than I do. I had the black one, it broke. I now have the blue one and it's just as bad. I have a lot of light during the day in my HT room and the remote is virtually impossible to read. It doesn't seem much better at night. Like sjdgpt said it wasn't a bad idea put the implementation is horrible. Don't they test these things? And while the Audioholics review of the 3805 was quite impressive, I think Clint was waaaay too generous with his review of the remote. The 3805 is an impressive receiver, just buy it knowing the remote is a weak point.

I think this is falling into the "love it/hate it" category many of the reviews have mentioned. My buddy has the 4802R with the big, square, blocky remote with the tiny joystick on it, and I can't stand the damn thing. He thinks my remote is kinda hideous, but functional. I can tell you that at one point I thought my remote was broken or I was going blind because I was having a heck of a time seeing the symbols on it. After complaining for about a month I popped in some fresh batteries and almost blinded myself the first time I picked it up. Judging from the first battery change, I'm guessing that for "good" light, the remote will only go about 3 or 4 months, although it seems the batteries will last another 45 days or so before completely crapping out.

Bryan...switching to rechargeables...

Low bidder wins the battery contract. Everytime.

Besides, your batteries are fresh, those batteries had to swim over that big pond and sit around in a warehouse until you bought the 3805.

Glad the batteries worked for you, too. This was the first time I *ever* saw such a difference from a pair of batteries-frikkin' amazing.

I just changed my batteries back and forth several times between the Philipps it came with and some fresh Duracells. There might have been a slight difference but not much for me. Don't get me wrong, I love the receiver and I think the remote is pretty cool. I just wished it worked as well as it looks.

Programming the remote...

Does anyone know how to program the remote with codes to work with other components. My DVD player, VCR, and tape deck are all automatically recognized but I can't get the learning function to work on my Mitsubishi
rear projection or my Samsung Direct TV satellite box. I printed out the whole list of programmable codes from the Denon site for the 3805 but the lame-*** manual gives no instructions on how to use the codes.

As bad as the remote is...I think the manual is the REAL weak point of the 3805. Many things in there are confusing, contradictory, missing, or just plain WRONG! The Bass Management description is a joke!

On the other hand, as someone mentioned, the 3805 is an impressive piece of receiver. I guess corners had to be cut somewhere!

I have a reputation for bashing remotes... I was trying to be nice. I think I made a comment about a similarity to a certain circa 1988 Atari membrane keyboard that got edited out of the final draft. :D

Have you tried to use the learning function?

On page 31 of the manual you will find the heading 'preset memory'. That is the procedure for using the codes, though don't hold your breath my pioneer cd player didn't work and still won't work with the learning feature.

Put me down in the column which says great receiver :) very bad remote
