Denon Recievers and HDMI passthrough

I am going to be getting a new Denon Reciever very soon and I am wondering about the best ways of hooking things up as for sound and video. Currently I have a Xbox 360 connected to the TV via HDMI and a optical cable going from the Xbox 360 to my reciever. Same thing for my Blu Ray player. Once I get the reciever would it be better to run HDMI to the Reciever and then from the Reciever to the TV. I have heard it depends on the recievers quality of video and audio processors. Any help on the topic would be great.

Running the video through the receiver is more of a convenience issue than anything. It's easier to select and coordinate audio and video selections. You should not experience any degradation of the video signal in pass through mode. I haven't had the opportunity to check them out across the product line, but I suspect that the results will be better as you move up into the higher end models. Not sure though.

A receiver's video processing usually comes into play when it is up-converting SD to HD from composite or s-video inputs. Passing an HDMI video signal thru a Denon AVR would not bother it. If you have the latest HDMI audio fix for your XBOX that was released last week you can eliminate the optical cable when you get the Denon AVR - same for your BD player. That is of course as long as it is a current model Denon with HDMI audio capabilities.

Yes run your 360 and blu-ray via the receiver. And then run one cable to the tv.

I run all HDMI through my Denon3808ci and out to TV. No problems. Denon 2500 blu-ray, Toshiba HD A35, Xbox Elite, DirecTV.
