The dilemma of buying today a receiver with HDMI input is:
- It does not have the new DD TrueHD and DTS-HD codecs
- The HDMI is not version 1.3 which will be required to "passthrough" the new codecs from the BR DVD player.
However, present HDMI versions will "passthrough" the new codecs if you have a Toshiba HD-A1 or XA1 HD DVD player. And these players give very good sound with the multichannel 5.1 analogs.
Both the Sony BR and the Toshiba HD DVD players are excellent Upconverting players. So what exactly are you looking for when considering the Denon 5900? If it's DVD-A and SACD, the other solution would be the new Oppo DV-970HD
