I was able to test a few other players using the Silicon Optix DVD benchmark. It's interesting to note that the Denon 1910 passes the film detail test at all resolutions and in all output modes. Regarding the film detail test I noticed:
Denon 1910 - Passes via all outputs and all resolutions with flying colors. Locks on so quickly it's almost impossible to see. The best passing result I saw on any player. This player passes the test via 480p component, 480p digital, 720p digital and 1080i digital. I was unable to see what firmware version was used, but it was a demo model at tweeters and would almost certainly be an early unit that has never had its firmware updated.
Denon 2910 - Fails in 480p progressive via component in a manner identical to the 3910. I was unable to test this via digital since they did not have it hooked up digitally.
Denon 1600 - Passes via 480p component, does not lock on quite as quickly as the Denon 1910, but still passes.
Denon 3910 - Fails in all modes except 1080i digital, where it passes in a manner similar to the Denon 1910.
Samsung 841 - Fails in all modes via all outputs, never attempts to lock onto and eliminate the moire pattern.
I'm hopeful that Denon can fix this problem with a firmware upgrade in the future, although it might be something that can't be fixed via firmware. The fact that the Denon passes this test at 1080i makes me think it might be fixable, however. Note I used a native 1080i display device for all 1080i testing, to make sure the display wasn't masking some sort of problem. The 3910 does indeed pass this test via 1080i for real, and fail it at all other resolutions, it's not display dependent.
