Hi everbody. I have two DVD players to choose from, a Denon DVD 2910 (currently hooked up) and a Sony DVPNS999Es. I know of many of your love of Denon, but which one would you use and why. I think that with the Denon being a newer Player it does a few things the Sony will not, but some advise would be nice. Philbert

Though the ES-series is Sony's top-of-the-line audio, Sony has never supported DVD-Audio. This is why I have never considered buying Sony DVD players once I discovered SACD and DVD-Audio formats. As such, I would recommend keeping the Denon since it's a universal (i.e., plays both SACD and DVD-Audio, and mostly everything else) player. If you have no experience with DVD-Audio disks, give Fleetwood Mac's "Rumors", the Beachboys "Pet Sounds", and/or Diana Krall's "The Look of Love" DVD-Audios a try on the Denon, and you'll be happy with the choice you have made.

Thanks for the input! I have had several other SACD players, so I have plenty of SACD's never seen a DVD-A to the best of my knowledge maybe I saw some on the shelf and didnt know what I was looking at! Life is hard enough without subjecting my ears to Fleetwood MAC, LOL. I am more concerned with Video reproduction. Please dont take offense about my coments regarding Fleetwood Mac, but I didnt like em then and I don't like em now, but I do know what you are saying. That said apples to apples Denon SACD VS Sony SACD, and Video head to head, technically, why Denon?
BTW I also use the sony 3ES, with a Rotel 1095, Def-Tech top of the line all around on this system.

No offense taken. The Rumors DVD-A album was the first hi-def disk I listened to and I was blown away by how good the audio was. It was this album that got me into DVD-A and SACD. That's why I usually recommend this album as a "for instance." Prior to buying this disk, I have never collected any Fleetwood Mac albums (in either LP or CD format).

On another note, I have been very impressed with the performance of my Sony DA3ES receiver and I imagine the ES DVD player would perform admirably as well. However, I don't think you will notice much difference in the video between the Denon and the Sony-ES. Since Sony was the co-inventor SACD, their player may handle SACD disks better. However, SACD disks sound great on my old Denon DVD-2900. That being said, in my limited experience, quality differences are usually not noticed until you compare products of two different price regimes (say a $300 player vs. a $3000+ player). But since I have never seen (or heard) the Sony in action, don't take too much stock in what I have to say. By the way, I went with a Denon receiver (instead of Sony-ES) in my home theater to take advantage of the Denon-Link 3 digital connection for audio.

Thanks for your input. I was going to sell my 3Es, then I came accross a deal on the Rotel 1095,(6 months old $500.00!) and all I was after was more power, so I hooked it up to the Sony and WOW. I use a Sony TA-N55ES 2 channel amp to run my rear channels to make it all 7.1, and it sounds great.

I know this wasn't about Fleetwood Mac Rumours but i had to say something. While it is in my top 5 albums ever made, I love it that much, the DVD-A is not one of the better ones. In fact, I have to say it is one of the worst sounding high rez discs I have. Still good and nice to listen to, but not one of the ones I would recommend to someone new to high rez music.

Thanks for the comment Johnny. Since I never owned this album in LP or CD format, I couldn't judge how good the DVD-A version was with respect to the earlier formats. Like I said, it was the first DVD-A I listened to and I was very impressed with what I was hearing. We probably shouldn't comment further about this album (or the other albums I listed) so-as not to hijack this thread.
