Never thought I'd see the day.

Shame I like my DACs on my 3910 more than my receiver.

That's good news! Gene, I was wondering if you could tell me something- how does bass management work thru the high rez digital in? For instance, with my creaky ol' DVD-2200, there's one global setting for DVD-A & SACD. Since the bass ref level differs for the two formats, but you have only one setting, you have to optimize one at the expense of the other or find a compromise setting that's decent for both. But DD & DTS use diff bass ref levels, yet all recvr's auto comp for the diff.

With the hi rez multi in, have they rectified that failing of the older ones (ie one global setting) or is it the same ol' same ol? Please tell me you can set the levels, channel trim, LFE, etc independantly for each format...

Read the press release carefully. The approval is for SA-CD 2.0, and does not encompass SA-CD 1.3 which is the current specification.

Until the SA-CD 1.3 specification is amended, DenonLink is not yet approved for the current SA-CD format. Although it appears that that approval is forthcoming, it is not yet a fait accompli.

Cheers,

What the...?

C'mon, Sony quit stringing us along with this! SACD will have faded into the sunset by the time this gets okayed (if it hasn't faded away already!)

John, good point, but I am sure it will eventually get approved for ver 1.3. I will check with Denon to see what they say.

Franchot, yes it is quite faded, more so than the pair of 10 year old Jeans collecting dust in my closet :D

Sony, the 'slow' kid...

No suprises here. This IS the same company that has taken until late 2004 to decide and release competive MP3 products. Yeah, Sony DOES ride on the short school bus...

Ooops! Duped by Sony again.

Geez, WmAX- your avatar is starting to creep me out. I found a cool "Boycott Monster" emblem you could use instead...is there any way to post a picture here? I suppose if not, I could change my avatar long enough for you to save it; you could then use it or not as you prefer.

But your current one is freaking my shiznit!

LOL! It's not even 'my' avatar. I just *stole* that other fellow's avatar, flipped it and added some expressions and some weight to the face to make it, uhm, more interesting, if you will. :)

I may change it --- and in fact i was going to remove it -- but now I might keep it another few days just so that you may appreciate it for a bit longer. :D

That is exactly the way I read it as well. Current Denon owners are still back at square one.

It would be nice to know when Denon expects to release products conforming the the new spec. I'm interested in the DVD-5910, but probably not until this fall. I would hope that by then initial bugs would be worked out and it would pass SACD over Denon Link.

An amended spec for 1.3 is being worked on, but until then it can't be released. Once it is, I suspect a software upgrade will enable DenonLink for current SA-CD.

Here we go again!!! Entice us with an approval which doesn't apply to anything we already own!! What the f$%*& is with these big companies?

Sony has practically abandoned SACD for the upcoming Blue Ray yet they still refuse to approve the SACD format over Denon Link in it's current configuration.

When the war starts between Blue Ray and HD DVD I will vote for HD DVD. One reason is just to spite Sony and their power trip!! I think they are on a crusade to make up for their major defeat in the battle between VHS and Beta.

I passed on buying a Denon DVD Player with Denon Link soley because it couldn't pass SACD through the Denon Link. Why pay for something you can't even use? It's like paying extra for a car with A/C when the A/C doesn't work because it's not approved for use.

Give me a f&*(#$ break!!!

Frustrated in Washington State!!

You tell 'em, Mitch! F them! Just kidding...it is very frustrating (especially as an owner of the 3805 and the 3910). Fortunately, the sheer magnificence and splendor of these two units makes up for the still lacking SACD interface! :D

12 to 24 mos before products with SACD 2.0 capable connections will hit the market. SACD 2.0 will also work with HDMI as a connection interface.

As far as current Denon Link equipped products, it is my guess that these products(CDPs) will not be approved for SACD 2.0, or if they are they will need some hardware change as the new SACD 2.0 spec has better encryption among others things.

It's also my guess that Denon Link 2 does not meet a requirement of SACD 1.3, and frankly, I don't think it ever will without some hardware change. I can't see Sony/Philips coming out with a new "better" spec and then allowing the previous spec to be used on a "less secure?" or proprietary connection.

Just my thoughts anyway. Although the time to market of 12-24 mos for SACD 2.0 products is from Denon themselves.

Yeah, I recognized it was boosted from another member. How did you add the pictures in your post? Do you need to link to a website?

And SACD is supposed to EVER have any chance of continued existance in the mainstream?

All this trouble to keep Joe Schmoe from using his choice of digital processing chains or DACs. Yet they can not stop even 1(!) actual commercial pirate that wanted to simply reconvert the analogue output back to digital using premium quality ADC convertors.

This scenario makes me think that some possibly mentally challenged people are in charge. Seriously.

I just link to a website.

That is too large, horiztonally, to be used as an avatar. Additionally...I don't even want an avatar at the moment. Thus I have removed the one I was using. ;)

who cares?

Now you have a one cord connection between components, no real improvment. When they go wireless I'll be impressed.
