Looks like there is a new company that has made a decision to join in on the format war. I know that a number of people will jump off the fence they were sitting on at this news, even if they aren't going to dish out the cash for the Denon itself.

$2,000 boys and girls - it ain't gonna be cheap.

Apparently there are two models that Denon will release though and there is not pricing listed on the lesser expensive model at the link provided.

Well thats going to help the format war end more quickly. It looks like a solid player but damn is it expensive. Certainly looks better than that stupid photoshop prototype that was on the net earlier.

Look at the prices of their regular DVD players. Denon makes high end equipment and doesn't let you forget that .

Schwing! While all these other guys are trying to come out with lower cost players, Denon throws down the gaunlet I'm sure they will have a lower cost player too, but as I mentioned before, that last article definitely indicated they were going BD.

If by 'they' you mean Denon, then you are not correct. Denon feels the world needs high quality well designed and developed product and will happily charge everyone for the quality that they have very consistently delivered.

If by 'they' you mean, Blu-ray in general, then Denon would not be the company that would be delivering Wal-Mart quality products. I would expect those to come from some other company. I do expect it to happen at some point though.

This is not cheap player news, it is simply news that a highly respected company has picked a specific direction in this format war. Sounds really good to me.

I posted this in another thread and never got an answer. Will a BD player (any of them) output 1080i via compenent video? If so which ones?

if Denon were to go the same path as their DVD players, that would mean there would at least be two lower priced blu-ray players from them that's good news. one step down would still be a bit too expensive for me.

I'm waiting for Pioneer (the master of cheap but reliable players IMO) to come out with 200-400 buck players

All of them will. I use my PS3 via component video and use digital audio connection and run it through a DAC to get it into distributed audio so I get full 1080i HD distribution throughout my home from my PS3. Pretty nifty.

But, every Blu-ray player on the market will allow 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i output via component video.

Let me footnote this really quick: None of them will upconvert DVDs over component video. This is also typical of upconverting DVD players. You want upconversion? You gotta go with HDMI, DVI, or VGA.

Understood and no worries there. I have a few DVD's that will upconvert over component but they are not mainstream movies. So it is software specific, at least with my Toshiba A2.

That is curious; $2,000 for a Blu-ray transport? Hopefully, that's not right.

I'm hearing conflicting reports about the release date on this unit. Pretty much agreed that it won't come out before late december.

Personally I know this is a Denon loving site, (and I have only had 2 pieces of Denon equipment)
But in my findings, they are way overpriced and just like ANY manufacture, will have service issues.

For a 2,000.00 player, you are boardering on Krell status.

Meh, I know, we all have one (opinions and other things)

EDIT; as well, this would be third gen players from other manufactures.
And what is up with a $2K player not having a ethernet port for updates.
I know it was mandatory for HD DVD, and was pretty sure it was for BD as well.
(even though I am format nuetral, having BD and HD DVD, I have no reason to keep up with what is or isn't mandatory = I have my players now )

I thought the Denon BD players had been postponed due to profile issues? Denon in the last couple of days said BD 1.0 Profile players may not be able to play BD Profile 1.1 discs.

"But there is a possibility — and this is maybe not so public knowledge — that when these discs come out that fit this new profile, they may not work properly with the Profile 1.0 players."
