New to the Forum. So I've recently built up my home theater room within the past year. I have the Denon AVR X6300h running a full 11 channel atmos setup. Pushing klipsch 5502 in walls for the Fronts and center channel and 5650 S ii for the in wall surrounds .The heights are a CDT5800. I felt that with this many speakers being run that my receiver was running pretty hot and lacking a little power. So I went out and got and Emotiva XPA 7 gen 3 to run the fronts and surrounds leaving me with 7 unused amps in the receiver. It seems that I'm unable to assign the unused amps to another zone witch is what I was hoping to do. I have to run the heights to the separate amp to have receiver run them, which I don't want to do because I think 200 watts is too much power to run outdoor speakers. What do you guys think? Did I waste my money buying a separate AMP? Or should I just downgrade to the 3 channel AMP and save a little money? The difficult part is not knowing the amount of power all speakers are getting with all the channels being driven on the Denon. Any input would be appreciated.

At this point I would power the mains in zone 1 then remaining amp channels of your XPA7 to zone or surrounds as to what your needs are. As to whether you needed the external amp...relieving the avr of amp duties should prolong life somewhat. If the avr was running hot I'd first consider ventilation/active cooling.
