Guys and Gals,
Id greatly appreciate any help anyone could give me with my Denon receiver... Ive been half tempted to turn this thing into a flying paperweight and be in need of a new TV as well.
Long story short, came back from holiday time with family, turn the TV, cable and receiver on only to be told on tv screen there was 'No Signal.' Ive checked and rechecked the cables numerous times (everything is running off of HDMI cables), and run stuff directly into the TV to ensure everything else works, which is does. I called Denon, they had me do a factory reset (surround buttons both down, start to reset it), and Im still stuck at the same crosscroad.
Im not the brightest at the AV stuff, but if anyone has any recommendations to what I could try to get this thing working, it'd be greatly apprecated.
TV is a Samsung 58in Plasma, Denon reciever model AVR590.

If you take one of the HDMI sources and feed it directly to the TV, bypassing the Denon, does it work?

Yes, both the Playstation 3 and the Cable are working directly through the TV.

Yeah, I now see where you slipped in that info neatly in the middle of your post. Sorry I didn't notice it before I posted.

Good luck. Anything to check in the setup screens?

It sounds as if the video board in the Denon is down.

See if the Denon will output a component video signal to the TV. If it does then the problem is likely in the HDMI board and that will need replacing. If not then your receiver needs a new video board.

No worries.

None so far... im completely mind blown. The crazy thing is, if I try to plug in, say the cable box, into the TV slot on the reciever, it gives me something like Check Signal, which leads me to believe cables should be running right. Got it thats not how its supposed to go, but at least its a different message lol. Ive been through the settings quite a bit, and nothing really sticks out to me thats wrong. Denon wasn too much help, check connections, factory reset, mail it off plus $100 bucks to get it checked out. No go for me... lol. Hoping someone here might have an idea.

It is beginning to sound more and more like HDMI board failure.

See if you can pass a composite or component video signal through to the TV.

In other words exclude the HDMI board from the equation and see if you can isolate the problem to the HDMI board.

I think far more likely than not it is service or new receiver time.

By the way, I think Denon gave you sensible advice. What else could they say? I would give you exactly the same advice unless you are experienced in electronic trouble shooting and service and own the test gear to do it.

I really doubt this is a setting or soft ware problem, almost certainly a hardware problem.

Appreciate the responses, I'll try the composite video tomorrow when I get a chance. I was just simply trying to get some other opinions or advice before either paper weighting it or see what the cost of fix may be, hoping it wont be the same as a new one.

HDMI boards usually run just over $100 and then their is labor and freight. So you will likely end up somewhere around $250 to $300 all told. That is if it is the HDMI board, which I strongly suspect, as it neither receives or transmits an HDMI signal.

Seriously, I have no life.
That receiver can't be much more than two years old and Denon's warranty is two years. Send it in if you can't get it to work, but make sure the HDMI inputs are correct before you ship it. Also, in case you haven't checked this yet, make sure the video for each source function is correct. If you select Menu> Input> Video while you're trying to use each input and it shows 'Source', you need to step it through the options to the correct one for that function.

If you use the HDMI input on the TV and press Menu on the receiver's remote, what do you see?

HDMI inputs (if we're talking about the cables themselves) are good to go.

Video for each function. Assuming what your saying is verify that SAT/CBL on receiver also reflects HDMI 3, it does.

Now with your saying use the HDMI input on the TV, and menu on the recievers remote - produces nothing.

Notice when receiver is off - TV says 'Check Signal Cable.'
However when receiver comes on, I get 'No Signal'

Display just now reads STEREO, HDMI SAT.

Thanks for further troubleshooting... let me know if you have any other ideas.

If the TV is on and the receiver isn't, the TV gets no "handshake" from the receiver, so it assumes there's a problem. I haven't checked to see if the video will still go to the TV when a receiver is off- Denon receivers are called 'pass-through-, but whether it goes through when the power is off, I can't tell you until I try it. I'll see if I can do that later today. If you verified the cables by connecting the TV and sources directly, great- I was referring to the receiver's setup menu. If you reached over the top of the receiver to make the connections, I would use a mirror and flashlight to verify the placement. It's pretty easy to plug into HDMI 1 or 3 when you want HDMI 2, etc. It happens.

If you verify the cable assignment (on the back of the receiver AND in the setup) but still get nothing, you'll need to contact the seller and/or Denon.

Is it under warranty?
