Denon AVR4310 HDMI issue

Hey all,

I may have an isolated problem here, but if anyone else has had this with this or any other receiver, your help would be greatly appreciated.

The problem:

I have the receiver running to my older Mitsubishi TV via a Monster HDMI to DVI cable. Unfortunately, no HDMI on this TV. My XBOX360 is hooked up to the receiver with component cables due to the 360's lack of HDMI audio output!

So when I play a game, things will be fine for a while, and then the video starts cutting in and out. It's a weird thing...it's almost like the receiver can't detect the resolution and tries to adjust. Either that, or my TV is sending back the wrong info to the receiver. What's even more weird is I tried running component cables from receiver to TV, and passing through the video and I still get the same result!

I previously had the AVR2808 and had zero issues with HDMI. That is what leads me to believe this is an issue with the receiver, and possibly an issue with the Anchor Bay video processor in this receiver. Has anyone else had an issue like this? If so, what are some possible fixes? Please help as I would love to avoid calling Denon technical support!

Thanks,

Kyle

P.S. It should be noted that I also run an AppleTV, DirecTV HD DVR, and PS3 via HDMI to the receiver and do not get the video problem. It only happens with the Xbox 360! Why doesn't the 360 support HDMI audio out???

Try running component video to the display and let it up-convert the analog video signal. It may clear up the problem you are having with the AVR or display.

I have a Denon 5308 and the screen does that sometimes (cuts in & out) with my Optoma Projector when I play the Nintendo Wii.

Knucklehead, I am going to try that next. The only thing I don't like about doing that is it can induce some audio lag issues. I know the AVR has audio delay, but it's a total trial and error process that can tend to get a bit frustrating.

I guess it's not anymore frustrating than trying to play games online and having the video get all jumbled at the worst possible times!

I wonder if there's something in the way video game consoles transmit video that some AVR's have a hard time recognizing?

In the Denon manual they warn about compatibility issues when using HDMI to DVI. I suggest either upgrading your display to an HDMI one or using component video for all of your HD connections.
