Your Blu-ray player doesn't have a good DAC? Most of us don't care about having an AVR with 7.1 analog inputs. The HDMI input should work well with any Blu-ray player.

I used to connect an OPPO UDP-95 using the 7.1 analog inputs on a previous Marantz receiver. The DAC in most Blu-ray players should adequately perform without any issue, unless the AVR has a defective HDMI input circuit.

Well, the player’s DAC would only be active when using analog outputs. Otherwise, the receiver would convert the digital signal to analog from the HDMI or any other digital connection as opposed to just amplifying an already converted multichannel analog connection. I have an old Oppo and an old Toshiba with multichannel analog outputs. I’d like to tinker with them again. My Sony UBP-X800 has no DAC as it has no analog outputs. The universal remote control on that Denon is a plus, though.

Yeah, played around a bit with my Denon's multich inputs and my Oppo 203.....went back to hdmi for simplicity as I determined no night and day thing going on as I was led to believe Attractive deal on the 6500 I think but don't really need it, so just wish the OP a speedy sale.
