Help please.
I saw on the news here that the 3rd edition is available as an upgrade for the 5803. Is this a software or hardware upgrade?
Also, is it available for the upgraded 5800 which also has currently the 2nd edition?
I asked the local guys here but they are not sure.
If I have it from you guys I will be able to tell them as well.
Thanks,
George.

Thanks,
That is the articlealso found on the audioholics website.
It says that the upgrade is available for the 5803. It does not mention the upgraded 5800(which is 95% a 5803).
Perhaps Jeff from Denon could help out?

Denon Link 3 won't be available as an upgrade for the already upgraded AVR 5800. It won't be getting the PLIIx upgrade either, which is a shame.

Thanks Jase.
I guess this means that SACD will not be transmitted to the amp. Is that right? I will still have to use my 6analog cables?
I am using a Denon 3910 as my source.
Can I tap further into your knowledge, any idea when we can expect the Denon Pre-Pro?
George.

Hello! I have a 5803A and a 3910, and I still use the analog multi channel input for SACD. All you need are six cables and some configuration on both units.

Hello Happy,
With the D-Link you can do away with the 6 analog cables and replace it with just the one cable(the D-Link). Thats one of the benefits of the D-Link. It also would allow for a better sound.
Your 5803A can be upgraded where it would allow this.
George.

Yes. For SACD you'll still have to use the 6 Analog cables. I find it strange that the upgraded AVR 5800 can't be updated further though. According to Denon Germany it's not technically possible.

As I understand it, details will appear at CEDIA later this year. Been waiting a long time for Denon to re-enter the Pre-Pro market!

Quite right Jase, odd that the upgraded 5800 can't be upgraded further. To my simplistic mind, it seems it might be a simple upgrade. Is it a software or hardware upgrade?
Maybe it "won't" be upgraded as opposed to can't.
Perhaps I will just have to wait for the pre-pro.

Going from Denon Link to Denon Link S.E required the unit to go back to Denon so I assume it's hardware and software. Same applies for the AVR 5803 to 5803A upgrade. I did see it mentioned that the original AVR 5800 didn't have enough internal memory and this limited it's upgrade potential.

Maybe it "won't" be upgraded as opposed to can't.
I'd wondered that myself to some extent seeing as it can cope with every other format that's out there and shares the same digital board as the AVR 5803. I'm pretty sure it "could" be upgraded if the powers that be decided to. Although from a marketing point of view that might hamper sales of the newer models.

Perhaps I will just have to wait for the pre-pro.
I was going to change my upgraded AVC-A1SE (AVR 5800) for the new A1XV (AVR 5805) but I've decided to wait until the Pre-Pro's appear. :D

I have a new Denon 3910 without DenonLInk enbaled. Talked to Denon yesterday about enabling the DenonLink, thought it was just a softwre update. They said the unit would need to be send back as it involves more than software. Should be available in about 4-weeks.

If all of these units need to be physically sent back in, this DL3 upgrade is going to be a friggin' disaster! How the hell are they going to be able to handle all of that gear all at once? Maybe they'll do the upgrade in phases.

If true, this blows...
