For some it boils down to Audyssey vs. YPAO or MCACC and to be more specific the new multEQ xt 32 which they now used even allows for sub EQ and that would be very nice indeed:). If one uses cost or specs as the baseline for buying a AVR...Yamaha should win hands down, but YPAO just isn't funtional enough for more discerning type of audioholic. My experience having used YPAO it did some things well and others not so much...:(.

My 2 cents....:)
Just curious, have you used the latest rendition of YPAO? A comment was made by the Audioholcis review that it worked as well as Audessy (not sure of rendidtion) Leave it to Yamaha to walk to their own beat and in many ways come up with ideas to begin with. :)

I love brand new Denon receivers and pre-pros; I can't say the same for refurbished ones.:D

And everyone here knows I love Denon because I love Audyssey and use it extensively.:D:D

one thing about audyssey...

I would NOT make the Audyssey system a make or break in your decision.

Don't get me wrong, I own a 3808ci which I love, but in my case I had to disable the Audyssey thing altogether, because it just wouldn't cut it. May be it had trouble with my specific room, but the resulting sound was horrible.

I got much better results with manual tweaking. And a lot of time.

There is a rumor that Denon shares a problem with Onkyo - a batch of bad Audyssey mics a couple of years back. For a time I thought Audyssey was a horrible joke but getting Onkyo to replace my mic with the correct one made a huge difference and I'm back to being a fan.

change of mind

I was all ready to get the denon 4311 and now my sales guy says they are hard to get in. I will have to wait 60 days, he did come down in price to $1800. He also mentioned i could get the yamaha A3000 for $1400. Im leaning towards the a3000 now for the savings and availability.

Why not listen to the receivers you noted with the speakers your looking at and let your ears tell you which sounds the best to you.

I don't know what your local dealer is going through, but we just ordered one of these last week and got it next day. Did he offer you his demo model or try to push you towards another brand/model or a demo model of any kind?

He doesnt have a demo model. He never really pushed me towards anything. When i originally went it i was looking at the A3000 and 4311 the only thing he did mention was the 4310 was a gtood price. We are in Canada and this city has a poor selection.

Even though I would prefer the Denon, I believe it's overkill for your 5.1 Axiom 80/500 setup and the Yamaha will suit your needs very well.

ok its all done.

I ended up getting the Axioms http://axiomaudio.com/epic80_500_180.html
Yamaha A3000 and some yamaha Cd changer cdc 697

Also bought a samsung D8000 51 inch plasma. Got it all set up last night and so far i think it sounds great. Might need a little more mids? but then when i selected straight on the amp it sounded much nicer. Wife is out of town for the next 2 nights so im sure i will get it all tweaked by then. I will keep you posted.

Thx for all the help and advice.

Nice work. Would love to hear what you thought of it. I'm between the same ones and also live in Canada (Sk) and understand what you say about having difficulty listening or getting anything.

This is why I can relate so well to what you were describing since I'm also in Saskatoon. I might take you up on the offer. Cheers.
