Denon AVR-3805 and 4 ohm speakers

FWIW, I have been using a 3805 to drive all 5 of my 4 ohm speakers for a couple of years. I also usually have the crossover at 60 MHz and occasionally 40 MHz. Run for long periods at about -10 from reference,....have never had a problem with the 3805. My speakers are also not the most efficient at 88dB. The Denon rep I spoke to said the 3805 was 3.2 ohm stable, event though thats not listed anywhere in the manual. Personally I think you'll be fine.

Thanks for the info Nova. I'm thinking the same. I've never experienced any trouble so far...that e-mail back from them just alarmed me a bit, but it sounds more like the person who replied was just ill-equipped to answer my question. I've been running those speakers a bit over the past week, and louder than I normally would, and it only gets slightly warm. Oh, and then, I did some handy searching on the Audioholics website. Turns out, when they reviewed this way back when, they actually did so with some 4 ohm RBH speakers, and the receiver handled them, no problem. I think it's plenty safe.

Hmmm,... what a coincidence all of my 4 ohm speakers are RBH as well. Two 1266-SE's, one 661-SE, and a pr. of 66-SE's

Looking at all the posts Cory, it seems you have no worries. Well, you can worry if you want, but it's optional.

Definitely won't be a problem for the 3805. As others have said, pass the sub-80Hz signal along to your subwoofer and the Denon should sail without issue. In a worst case scenario, the protection circuit shuts everything down. Nothing blows up, nothing dies... it just cools down and you can start it up again without issue. I think the Denon person you dealt with was having a bad day!
