Denon AVR-3311 freezing

My Denon has been freezing lately, out of the blue, and it's getting very frustrating.

It froze a long time ago once using the "Source Select" function on the remote (which I never use anyways; I'd accidentally pushed it, but still..), and lately it has been freezing more often.

It froze last week while I was switching from Direct to Stereo while listening to my ipod, which is hooked up via analog to the Aux input. I couldn't do anything, though there was still audio coming out. Hitting the power button and power cycling it fixed it.

It then froze another day while I was watching a Bluray through my PS3 which is connected through HDMI to the receiver. I couldn't do anything. There was still audio and picture coming through, but I couldn't even turn it off; I had to pull the power plug out of the back!

Then, this morning, I was listening to my ipod again, and had switched from Dolby PLII Music to Stereo and it froze again, though this time I could use the power button to power cycle it.

I don't know if I have the proper documentation fro warranty anymore, because I probably threw that out, and I also don't have the box it came in either. Any suggestions? My room isn't overly hot, but all of these instances are not after running the unit for very long.

I would do a complete reset. You will have to set it up again after that. If it does not fix your problem, then look for software upgrades and install them.

If that does not fix it, it is likely new receiver time if it is out of warranty.

If this is hardware and not software related then you unit will likely need a new processing board and is probably not worth the cost of repair.

Thanks, I'll try that!

I don't think it's out of warranty, I just don't have the original receipt, so I doubt it matters anyways.

If I have to go with a new receiver, I might just go with a Yamaha AX-2000.

Before you do a hard reset, save the setup on your computer (the receiver needs to be connected to the network- it can't be saved to a USB drive, unfortunately). It will save the time of doing everything all over again.

If you have a USB drive connected to it as a server, disconnect it and see if it still freezes.

If the dealer is still in business, you should be able to get a duplicate receipt. If you registered it, and I don't know of anyone who does this, Denon will have you on file. They would also have you on record if you ever called their technical help department.

I'll try this, though it's not easy for me to connect it to my network since it's in my room and I don't have working CAT5 connections in there. I'll have to drag it out to my main room downstairs. Yes the company I bought it from is still in business as far as I know, so I'll try and get a second receipt! Thanks!

If you used a credit card or paypal for the payment, you can ask for a justification of payment, go back to the merchant, ask for a copy of your receipt. If you keep at it you will end up with sufficient proof for your warranty.
