Denon AVR-2808CI & Bass management

Hey all, I just purchased a Denon 2808CI and seem to be having slight difficulties. I spent about 1.5 hours switching between this model and a Yamaha RX-V1800...and if I can't figure this thing out, I'm taking it back for the Yammie.
First thing, I tried auto setup with the Audyssey mic and that's where suspicion was raised. It set my front L, R & Center crossover freq at 40 hz with a setting of Large. Sub crossover was set to 80 Hz. Now I may be wrong in my thinking, but that's basically saying that everything down to 40 Hz is going to go to the mains/center, and below 40 Hz will go to Sub, right? (BTW, My Mains are Energy Connosuer C-5's, and my center is Energy Connosuer CC-1). With this setting active, movies sound like garbage because there's a complete lack of sub-bass.
OK, so I read the audioholics article on Bass management and set all speakers to small, crossover for front L & R to 80 HZ, Center & Surrounds small @ 80 HZ, and sub @ 80 HZ. This seemed to help somewhat, but it's still not like I'm used to with my old Yamaha receiver (and doesn't sound even close to how it was in the Magnolia Hi-Fi w/ similar setup.)
My next step is to change my front L & R crossover to 60 hz (left at small setting) and see what that does. I'm not sure that since I've done the auto setup already, if all the graphic EQ curves are applied to the speakers still, as it took a took up to -6db from the lower frequency ranges.
I guess if all else fails, I might take note of the measurements the mic came up with as they are really close, reset the unit to factory defaults, and see how it sounds with no adjustments made to the EQ.
Basically, for those of you out there with the newer Denon models, I am looking for some advice/info on how your system is set up so that I can hopefully not have to take this unit back.

Thanks,
Kyle
