Denon AVR-1910 Multi-Zone Setup

Greetings, all.

I am trying to help a friend set up his Multi-Zone receiver. He is using it as a 5.1 system for the front room, and he also has two speakers in the garage, and two by the pool. Previously, he had three receivers in his front room cabinet.

I got the 5.1 working, and it sounds fantastic. I love how this allows you to assign inputs to different channels, and you aren't just stuck with what it SAYS the input goes to. Anyhow, we are starting on the Zone2 setup tomorrow and I wanted to be armed with a better understanding of how it works.

He was told by the salesman that the Multi-Zone setup allows you to watch TV on MAIN, and listen to another analog source in ZONE2 through the same receiver. If that is true, do I just need to wire the other rooms into a speaker selector, and the speaker selector source into the AMP ASSIGN channel? I think the 1910 only has a Zone2, so I'm assuming the selector is required, though I admit I'm lost here. The speakers themselves will be wired directly into the selector, and do not have a separate amplifier.

Also, how would playing the iPod on a separate input not switch the main input being used if you were watching TV? Is there a toggle button on the remote that allows you to pass it to another zone BEFORE you select the input source?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Zone to is controlled separately from the main zone so if you run the speaker selector off of zone 2 then he should be fine. Keep the main speakers off the selector.
Thank you! That guide is great and explains the Zone2 setup very well. I kept the 5.1 isolated from the speaker switch assuming this would be the case. Now it looks like I just have to go into Setup and tell it to assign Amp Assign for Zone2, then wire it into the selector. The sets of speakers then go into the selector. Got it! Thanks again!!
