Hello all,

I recently got a Denon AVP-1909 and I'm having a hard time setting it up.

The problem is the center channel (voice) sound is too low. If I'm watching movies or normal TV I would like the center channel to be higher. What happens is I have to turn the volume up to hear conversations, but then the other things like music and sounds are too loud.

I did the setup for 6 positions with the microphone, everything (cable box, blu-ray player and Xbox 360) is hooked up with HDMI cables, and this happens when I have the receiver set to Dolby Digital. If I set it to 5-channel stereo I don't have this problem, but that isn't what I want to do.

For the life of me, I can't find out how to do this in the manual. Any suggestions?

You just need to find the volume settings for the individual speakers and up the volume on the center a notch or two. That should solve most things, it will only increase the volume of the center speaker, so at the same volume X your center will sound louder than it does now.

Yes, you are right. The question is how to do it on this particular receiver. I got this receiver to replace an Onkyo and it would have been a piece of cake to do this with that receiver.

Another idea is to check to see if that receiver has a dynamic range control. If it does it probably defaults to full or max. changing it to a lower setting such as min or low will help even things out a bit.
I generally like to keep mine at max, but when trying to to watch certain movies at lower volumes it helps bring up the dialog by changing it to a lower setting.

Use the on screen display. That way, you don't need to go to where the receiver is (if it's not in the same room) or keep turning around to see it. Then, RTFM and scroll through the setup menu, using the remote.
